So sorry guys! But I need a simple answer that I can't find and I need to overnight this project... I hope we let this thread die off quickly and that the eye sore of a title I gave it leaves the front page of this awesome section about the best NLE ever: Vegas... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

All I need:
I need to get one frame rendered uncompressed in a Photoshop friendly format.

Hey just got back from filming an insert! lol... so last minute...

anyways... yea I guess... I don't know where that is... looking

Oh !

It's on the Video Preview WIndow and looks like a little SAVE FLOPPY DISC Icon

Check to see if the image settings are correct in Photoshop; you may have to adjust to read 720 X 480 !

GOT IT THANKS!

it was on the preview tool, great! and all this time I've been sharing frame grabs by print-screens :)

EDIT: you guys posted back... ok, so I'll do a PNG! great... I thought it was a bit compressed now thatI've been messing with it in PS...

Thanks a million!

well PNG doesn't look a whole lot better... so it must be mostly from the shutter and motion in the shot... but I think it is a tad better... sure can't hurt!

hey, guys you should look for the "A Walk in the Dark" thread in a day or two... MY FIRST (some-what) REAL EDITING JOB!

CRAP!!!!

BLUE!!! I forgot about that!!!

LOL!!! David, you are in the special thanks section for a reason my friend!

Ok so watched after burning the BLUE render and it IS noticeably better IMO. That makes it 9842 beers and counting that I owe you David.
And J.R. of course, thanks a mill for your help to man!

1. I do have one last problem... this is a common question but I'd really appreciate some guidance in a moment of procrastination... :D
I am not able to see this thing right on crappy TVs like mine... it is a widescreen but it still crops the crap out of the film... top bottom left and right... is there a certain size for the back bars that makes it safe for every TV known to man? is there something I can do to make it full screen but not cropped? and if the bars are the only way to safeguard... do I render it smaller and then put it on top of a black background and re-render it?

EDIT:
About my question above, can I just set a Pan/Crop the whole video track... well I guess with track motion instead... but can I just make it smaller at the track level and re-render it as an MPG2 without resolution loss? Or would I have to render an uncompressed version and then do this?

And I just noticed an other two problems:

2. I see these faint white vertical lines across the whole screen a little less than an inch apart... is this from my cheapo DVD/TV combo at home or could it be in the render?

3. I have a weird bug I thought I had fixed already but apparently it is still there: I have a CU of a phone with a second layer from which I cut a rectangle of the phone itself to cover the brand name on the other layer. The first time I noticed this problem I was watching the movie and the whole clip got skipped! This time I think I have the next clip doubled up where the phone should be and where it is supposed to be?!? is this something having to do with Magic Bullet on two separate clips on top of each other?
I just noticed that the reds are past the little box for the reds on the Vectroscope... could that be it since DVD architect might be trying to comply with broadcast regulations?

AGHHH!! I might be up all night trying to figure these out cause I HAVE to mail it in by tomorrow... thank you very much for saving me if you can and don't mind doing so.

A GOOD NEWS UPDATE

I fixed one of the problems (3)
Plz help with 1 and 2, but mainly the cropping problem (1)

It seems it was the reds that were well past 110%... I used a secondary CC and selected the screen for the caller ID of the phone (which is red) and I desaturated it till they fell right in the little square for the reds... I rendered the section and viewed it in DVDarchitect and viola...

I just just hope I figure problems 1 and 2 before the sun comes up... or at least before it is too late for the UPS drop off!
MAN I wish there were a few more insomniac Vegas users like me in the west coast!
(crossing fingers for David J. to sign on at the crack of dawn in the East coast :) )

1) Before you render, you should change the project properties to DV 24p Widescreen. Then, you should go into pan/crop, right-click, and select "Match output aspect." You will probably have to do this for every clip. That will get rid of the black bars on the sides.

2) Never seen anything like the white lines you're describing.

DAVID!!

I was hoping you'd be up early!

Ok, so I can change the project properties but is there a workaround for having to go into the Pan/Crop for every clip?
Also, I guess what you are saying for me to do is changing a setting and not messing with actual panning or cropping as I already have a ton of that going on that I don't want to mess up.

So I figured I'd get a head start as 99% of the time what you first suggest is right but by right-clicking and selecting to match output aspect it looks like I will crop the image... or is this just a very scary illusion that goes away due to the different pixel shape?

EDIT: Also, I wouldn't mind small black bars if it is the price to pay to keep the intended framing... what do you say?

Adjusting the frame by having it match the output aspect shouldn't affect anything else about the panning, but if you have keyframes, you'll have to do it at each keyframe.

You can try opening up a DV 24p Widescreen project and importing your main VEG file as a nested project, and then doing the "Match output aspect" to the entire project at once -- in theory, it should do the job, but I've never rendered anything big or important that way.

Why would it be an illusion? The purpose of going to a DV 24p Widescreen project is so that you're in the right pixel shape.

I see. But will the project fit as it appears on the preview if I don't make the crop match the output?

BTW the 1% is from when I don't explain myself correctly... though 1% isn't representative of how often that happens :D

EDIT: then again it is quite the insignificant crop... hummm.... what do you say David?

The preview of a DV widescreen project is correct for going to DVD. You want it to match that preview. Your MXF files won't without cropping; you'll see black lines on the sides. The "Match output aspect" crop IS cropping the footage a slight amount on the top and bottom, but it's only a tiny amount. If you framed the footage well, it shouldn't be an issue.

yea I figured you'd say that... 99% of the time cropping is the way to go...

BTW I just finished and I am re-rendering and burning!

Now all I need is to re-shoot everything with a 3 ton truck of grip and eclectic and a crew with 10 more people that we shot it with... but I'd save that for a script of my own or one that I was directing...

Make sure to check it out by this weekend in the HVX footage section. And look for your name! (hope I don't get a PM asking to remove it, LOL!!!)

I am sad to say that it is still cropping... and about the same if not exactly...

Is this my TV-DVD player combo?

DVDA is set to NTSC SD 24p Widescreen... I am 100% out of ideas...
