Need a good wireless mic and mount for EX-1

Im back after a long hiatus.
Im now using an EX-1 in the job im working right now.

I need to upgrade the wireless system we are currently using which is the Samson UM1/77 Micro. Its a decent but albeit low end wireless system, but unpractical in mounting. I cant figure out where to mount it.

I do a lot of interviews with the camera on tripod, which allows me to just tuck the receiver in the convenient slot of the hand strap, but when I have to go handheld for impromptu interviews, its a pain to juggle. Im a big believer in miking my subjects and not relying on the on camera mic.

What are your suggestions on good mounting and systems. Im open to any good system from AT to Sennheiser.

I would strongly suggest the Sennheiser G3 system for 600.00, and a hot shoe extension like this:

You slap that on our existing hot shoe, and then you can fit a shock mount like a Rode SM3 on it along with your wireless receiver. Or like I do with my EX1, I use the Rode SM5:

That goes into the EX1's mic holder and holds your mic. The Sennheiser G3 is a great little wireless unit. Anything cheaper probably won't work well. Do not cheap out on this, you will be wasting money, and possibly ruin a day's work due to static.

600.00 for just the wireless system alone:

800.00 with plug-on transmitter (no Phantom power though)

You can use any dynamic mic with the plug-on, but if you want a condenser with it the mic needs to be battery operated - like the Rode NTG-2, or NT-3 hypercardioid.

Good luck.

I made an album of my "EX1 Run & Gun" setup showing the hot-shoe extension and Rode SM5 shock mount. With these you can comfortably carry a light, wireless receiver, and mic without cluttering up your hand strap.

In this image you can see the Radio Shack Headphone volume boster. I Velcrod it to the body of the camera. It gives me 40db gain that reall helps with the EX1's somewhat quiet headphone jack.

Thanks David. I have 2 solutions now: one for a camera with a mic clamp, and one for a camera without the clamp that uses the "hot shoe mount"
