Need a DVD authoring program

Hello, all.

I have a secondary editing system based on a MacBook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with Final Cut Express.

I have FCS on my main machine, but this one is for teaching and small projects. Problem is, I hate iDVD, and FCE doesn't have a version of DVDSP. I tried Toast 9 and was not pleased one bit, and Roxio's customer service was, well... non-existent.

I want to be able to use an external (FW/USB) DVD burner as the MacBook only has a combo drive. I also want menu options that are a bit more customizable than what iDVD and Toast have to offer.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I should mention that I'm looking at something not so expensive. Not cheap, but not $800 like Adobe Encore.

You know you can customize iDVD to your liking. You can't add copy protection or anything like that but you can do some cool stuff with iDVD. Also how come you can't put DVDSP on your second machine? I have FCS on my desktop and laptop so I can work on projects on the go.

The hitch in that plan: my primary editing system is on a G5 with FCS (1), and everything I've seen says that this version of FCS will not run on an Intel machine. Anyone know differently?

EDIT: Especially confusing since FCS and FCS2 both have DVDSP 4.

I have Final Cut Studio on my Powermac G5 and my Macbook Pro laptop. It works fine for me. I am about to upgrade to FCS 2 soon though.

Well, then... that's incredibly helpful.

Thanks so much. I'll see if Compressor and DVDSP will behave for me!

Though... there's one other piece of that puzzle. 5.0 vs. 5.1. I'll need to check the box again, but FCS originally shipped with 5.0, and the 5.1 crossgrade was what opened everything up to Universal Binary. I'm not 100% certain that I had 5.1.
