Need a Cheap Gunshot wound to the head

I need an inexpensive and safe way to show a gun shot to the forehead. I have a good make up person who can make a great wound. I read that in one of the Godfather movies, they rigged a latex patch over a makeup wound and attached it with a small line to the gun Robert De Niro was holding, so when he shoots the Don, he simulates the gun kick to pull the patch off the fake wound. Anybody tried that? Or other ideas appreciated.

LOL, did someone call my name?

Hey now, I am cheap..... just not "free".

Sneakie, something to put in the back of your mind. Head shots, usually don't bleed a lot from the actually wound, as the energy of the round usually causes a massive exit wound, and releases any pressure out the back. A slow trickle from that wound would suffice, as long as you can show the "spray" out the back.

Of course this is dependent on the caliber of the weapon used. Anything .380 or bigger, think a bit of "pink mist" out the opposite side. If it is smaller, you will get more blood out the entry wound, as there is usually no exit wound. So that bullet will bounce around in the cranium. But you will get bleeding from many facial orifices and internal bruising (most common are what are called "raccoon's eyes". I tried to recreate this below):

And this makes it much easier to recreate the realism of a head shot, from a film-making standpoint. Unless you really need to see the bullet enter (extremely difficult to make look right), just show the actor reacting to the hit, with SFX/Blood Gag rigged behind him, and once you do their coverage/CU, then show the entry wound. The entry wound can be put in in post for the few frames the actor is still standing. Because the Hollywood BS, of an actor taking a bullet to the melon, standing around for a few seconds, lighting a cig, etc. is plain not real. You take a bullet to the brainpan, you drop like a sack of potatoes.

Now if you want ultra-realism, it'll be $5,000 up front, and $5,000 when the job is done, and you never heard of me. I will meet you at the coffee shop and you have the money in an envelope. Small bills only. Just make sure you get the actor to the designated location and be ready to roll. There will only be one take.

Haw!

Yes, just looking for the moment of impact, a few frames. Maybe I can fake it with coverage such as 1. he reacts to impact, 2. a different angle as he swings around in c.u. with hole in head.

initial gunshot wound could be fairly easily done in after effects. and then cut to a closeup of the victim on the ground with makeup applied.

Guac gun only for the exit wound, not entry wound.

What I can tell you, without too much detail, I have seen the end results of many a headshot. Like I said, I did my best to recreate the vast majority of them with my MUA job above. Of course I am not pale enough, but that is easily corrected.

But the guac gun would be excellent for the exit wound, I would also suggest putting some pink colored pudding or jello (with white added) for the brain matter.

Hey you want a realistic look, I'll show how it's done.
