Ok i got this tripod and its my first "real" Tripod ...i had a very smooth one before but it was a cheapie. This Libec has alot of pro features including a counter balance system that supports 10 -22lbs. As i understand it (maybe mistakenly ??) when balanced correctly you should be able to tilt the head and be able to let go of the pan handle and the tripod head should stay in that position on any drag setting including 0 ...correct?? Well i'm having no luck balancing this thing.

My 7d rig weighs about 12-14 lbs so its in the range. Its there a step by step process to doing this?

Here you go. This video is from Vinten but the procedure is similar.

The key is to set your tilt drag to a minimum before setting the balance and then balancing by both sliding the camera plate and adjusting the counterbalance knob.

In practice, you might not be able to achieve absolute perfect balance with the tilt drag set to the minimum. The camera tilt may still creep, but once you dial in a little drag, it usually stays put.
