Need a 2/3 chip camera to go with my AF-100

I would like to get a ENG camera to go along with my AF-100. I have a lens that I can use so just want a 2/3 HD p2 camera that won't break the bank. Whats the best bang for the buck in used P2 cameras right now?

I think that they are phasing out the AG-HPX500s. Should be able to get one for a decent price. I can make a few calls and try to source one for ya.

You can probably get a deal on HPX500s like Pyland mentioned, but I used both an HPX-500 and a HPX-370 within days of each other and greatly prefer the 370 over the 500 in both lowlight and usability of the controls on the body. I'm afraid I can't get more specific than that because I don't remember the details, only my impression, but I found the 500 lackluster and was impressed with the 370 in an overall sense.

That said, the 500 is CCD, and if you want that, it would be the cheap way to go for the 2/3" variety.

Thanks guys. I have a HPX370 at work and it's a good camera but I already have a very nice 2/3 lens that I want to use. If I go with the 370 then I would need to buy another lens since it's smaller.

My mistake, I thought the 370 would work with those lenses.

The Hollywood Non-Fiction TV show crowd still insists on me using a HDX900, which is a tape camera. Email me privately at ned AT nedmiller.com, I don't want to list my clients to the world here. They prefer tape for four reasons: They will be racing to the airport after the last shot so there's no download time allowed, they don't trust hard drives, they don't want to run out of media and very importantly, they don't want the shooter to possess a copy of the shoot. I have had some clients arrive with a fistful of 64GB P2 cards. A close 2nd, which is more money is the great HPX2700, but I think you can find a 900 cheaper.

To me, those two are the most beautiful 2/3" cameras.

I sold my Hpx500.

It was okay, but still had a sensor that uprezzed to HD.

If I were looking at a 2/3 compliment to the AF100 it would be the HPX-3100.

AVC100 Intra, Full raster 1080P Chip, internal wireless receiver-capable.

Not cheap, but imo no compromises either.

Why not a second AF 100, with MTF adapter? Good luck!

Why P2? why not the AG-AC160a - takes same media and batteries, great lens for ENG stuff (that's why i bought it) - has SDI out, goes 60FPS at 1080p (i think)

HPX500s are going cheap, good camera, but a little long in the tooth.

HPX3100 is awesome, I love that camera, it's so much smaller and lighter than the 500 and the image is just devastatingly good.

HPX370 comes with a lens already, so you wouldn't need to buy a lens for it. Not the best lens in the world, but it works. You could also get a 1/3" to 2/3" adapter and use your lens on it, but obviously there would be a 2x crop factor involved so it wouldn't be nearly as wide-angle on the 1/3" camera. And, of course, the 370 isn't a 2/3" camera, and your initial post said you wanted 2/3".

Thanks for the input. I was thinking about the adapter for the 370 but it cost over a grand and the crop isn't good for me. HPX500 if it's cheap might be a good deal. HPX3100 does look very good but I can't afford it right now. I'm going to see if I can't find a HPX500 to test out with my lens. It might be a good camera to get by with for certain purposes where an ENG camera just works better. Hate to see a good lens go to waste.

I have the Ac-160 as well and cross shoot it with the af100 all the time. the built in lens is just as long as the one you want to use
and you can set it up just like reg ENG if you like.

Take a look at the camera it might surprise you.
