Neat Macro Test

Hey guys, I found some old macro tubes I picked up from eBay a few years ago and immediately thought: I bet this would be cool on my new camera??? Since I've always shot Nikon, all I had to do was pop it on my adapter. This was a Nikon 50mm f/1.8

I'll be shooting more of this stuff when I have some free time and a better lighting situation (this was just an overhead light in my office)

Did you use a reversing ring too? I hear* that one can get a lot of chromatic aberration without reversing the lens. Loved the 'look' of these too (pun not intended).

* Listen to The RC podcast using extension tubes and a Canon 50mm on an Epic: http://www.fxguide.com/therc/the-rc-99-red-dog-and-ftw-scarlet/

No reversing ring, just the tubes. It was soft, but it made for an interesting look. Could use as a quick cutaway for something I'd imagine

Years ago, Vivitar made a really nifty adapter for Pentax K-mount lenses. It's a "macro focusing teleconverter." It functions either as a 2x teleconverter or a macro tube, depending on which direction you rotate the focus ring. It has optics but the only effect is to loose a stop or so. The best thing is that it lets you focus with a ring instead of moving the camera in and out, which also lets you control the amount of macro you desire. Combine it with a Pentax 50mm f/1.4 and an ebay PK-emount adapter and your set. If you can find the Vivitar adapter on ebay you would be out less that a few hundred for the whole set up. It seems logical that the Vivitar adapter may even have been made for Nikkors, but I've never seen one, not that I've looked much.

EDIT: I searched ebay and they were made for Nikkors. I just grabbed one for $55.

Cool! Post some results if you have a chance.
