FS7: Near perfect lens for FS5/7 ?

Depends what one considers "reasonable". It's apparently going to be around 4,700 pounds, so over $6000 USD.

*Edit: I guess it's US MSRP with the zoom grip is $6000, $5500 without.

We will see. If you use the Sigma (or Canon) 24-105 with a speedbooster,
you get something very similar to this lens....but at 2.8. Of course that
wouldn't have the powered zoom that the new Canon would. Also worth
noting that Sony is probably coming out with a 'cinema' version of
their 18-105 powered zoom.

will this lens with with a speedbooster ? If it's not fly by wire zoom and focus and par focal this could be a great lens for doco. I'm interested in the new Sony but I'm not enjoying the fly by wire focus on the 28-135.

It's a super 35 lens from what I see, so you couldn't
speedboost it on a super 35 camera. Looks like
you could on a M4/3 camera though.

If it achieves all its optical objectives mechanically completely non-electronically then it will be a great outdoor standard zoom for doc/news/reality

As I read this specs, it seems this is a lens designed soley for super-35 imager so while you will still need to adapt to your particular camera, will a crop factor be in play? Seems not. And $6grand for a cinema style ENG lens is a far cry from the $22 grand of the other option and perhaps considerable lighter. It is slow however.

If it is a truly mechanical lens with that range and that weight with a T4.4 (f4) with decent sharpness contrast etc. then its really a steal- I would pay up to 10k for something like that. It might also get some people to sell off their canon CN-E zooms that are already going used for pretty good prices I see Canon 14.5-60 t2.6 going for 14-12k on ebay, if the new lens causes the prices to drop to 10k I might just grab one of those instead.

While it does have the obvious shortcomings (only f /4), it certainly is a big step in the right direction... and hopefully is a sign of more to come. I could certainly see using it for doc / news exteriors where lens changes may be problematic.

When I first heard of this lens I was amazed and wanted it tons.

Now I've also heard of the FUJINON 20-120 which seems to be rumored at 15-18k..... seems a much more complete option and more direct competition with the 19-90 fujinon / 17-120 canon cne....

Just as I make my last payment on the fs7 kit....... time to finance something new lol.

Now where to unload this 28-135............
