NEAR PANIC HERE: Help needed with Component Out Display

Greetings all,

I recently purchased two HVC200P cameras. Last night, I was playing around with SCENE FILES (downloaded from Panasonic's site). I thought I would be clever and create my own TEXT FILE that contained 6 different scene files made up of the first (F1) set from six different scene files. It worked BEAUTIFULLY.

HOWEVER: when I went back to my studio to test inside, I hooked up to my 19" Visio monitor via the COMPONENT OUT which has been working just fine. The display colors on the monitor were AWFUL! Color bars are terrible. It is as if the greens are turned all the way up. Resolution is just fine. The LCD and viewfinder are both just fine.

I have reset to all INITIAL screen file and user settings. I have compared all the cam settings with the other cam that is working properly. I checked the cable and monitor using my other cam and all is OK there. Something is up with the camera.

Have I messed up a setting pertaining to the external display??? PLEASE HELP!

THANKS,

james =)

No, you probably just have to detach and reattach the cable. The component connector on the HVX200 is notoriously fiddly.

If there was anything haywire with the scene file, you'd see it on the LCD and viewfinder.

Try playing back some footage -- if the played back footage looks good on the monitor, then the cable's good. If the played back footage looks goofy, then there's a problem with the cable.

Thanks for the reply Barry,

Here's the troubleshooting steps so far.

I have 2 cables and 2 Vizio monitors.

The cam display is identical (BAD) on both monitors using different cables. This is true for live or video playback. Plugging in the other cam, both displays are fine. So, ruled out cable / monitor.

Even though the display is bad on both 19" monitors, it is just fine on the LCD and in the viewfinder.

Is there any settings that just effect the external component out display?

Not having a very good feelin' about this.

THANKS for any help!

james =)

So, you've got two HVX200's, two cables, and two monitors. With one camera, both monitors look great. With the other camera, both monitors look bad?

I'd look for a bent pin or something in the component connector at that point... I don't think there's going to be anything to do with menu settings causing any such issue.

Thanks again Barry,

I'm a pretty good trouble shooter. That's about what I have figured out. It's likely a hardware problem. The PIN idea is a good one. Visual inspection-they look straight/in place. <sigh>

One more trouble shooting test. I swapped over to an AV cable (RCA) to the monitor setting it to the AV input. Works just fine but it is in 480 rather than 720/1080. For now, that will be my work-around.

Talked to one other person who suggested that the plug connection to the board may need fixin' as Barry well said, "The component connector on the HVX200 is notoriously fiddly."

If anyone else has a thought, would love to hear!

Best wishes all,

james =)
