ND wheel mod

So no Birger mount coming out soon, the Kipon vignettes, Redrock probably won't make an adapter soon enough, matte boxes can be a royal pain not to mention being large and expensive, and there are no other options on the radar that I can think of. Has anyone given any thought to modding the ND wheel to cut more light? Maybe stick-on slices of ND filters, or some sort of film that could be applied (all very carefully)? I don't have the camera in front of me to see, but at worst, a skilled tech should be able to do this in minutes. Kits could be made with additional stops, say, the usual .3, .6, .9, 1.2, etc.

Thoughts?

Vari-ND will do; from polaroid to Singh-Ray and DIY versions. If hdslr shooters are using it, no need to find something else...
