ND Filters

What are your experiences with ND Filters? For me it is one of the greatest weaknesses. I tried a lot of ND Filters in different sizes, for different lenses, Vario NDs as well as standards. Some are ok, but I have always the feeling, that they cause a slight blur (more with zoom lenses), this is worse for me than the slight color shift.
Otherwise is it very comfortable using a vario ND.
Unfortunately, one can not do without it at all. In this sense I am always happy, when I use my "old" FS700

I get absolutely no blurriness with screw-in ND filters.
Variable ND filters do generate some blurriness at some focal lengths. Cheap resin filters for cokin ND can be awful. But all standard screw-ins are perfect in this respect, even shooting 36 Mpix stills.
Color cast, that's a different story: my old Tiffen ND filters went green, by new Hoya ProND are better in this respect (though I haven't ran proper tests).

Probably some of my filters are to cheap. I followed your advise and ordered a Hoya Pro ND today. I am very excited.
The link to your test doesnt workfor me.

My favorite brand of ND and Polarizer at the moment is Breakthrough Photography.

Not cheap but great quality and results. I also have an old set of IR ND Tiffen Filters as part of their Indi Package. It's decent, not as good as Breakthrough IMO. I've never had results I like with a variable ND.

I also went with these. No color cast and razor sharp images, I highly recommend.
