ND filters for GH1 kit lens

I have been doing some research into getting 62mm ND filter(s) for my GH1's kit lens. Basically when filming outdoor scenes, footage is way too over exposed unless I bring the aperture up to nearly f/20 which causes a lot of noise, so if I wanna keep the aperture at no more than f/8, I guess that I need some ND filters.

I priced some ND filters in a local camera shop and they came in at around €50 for one and €100-€130 for a variable/fader filter (camera shops in Ireland are complete rip-offs!!!). When pricing ND filters on eBay, they are only a few dollars/euros (less than 10) and the fader/variable filters are around €60. They all seem really good value but does anybody know what kinda quality they are? I'm not looking for anything expensive like a Singh-Ray filter but I just want something that does the job.

And for your average daytime shot, at ISO ~300, at f/8, would an ND8 filter be enough or would I need something stronger?

I have one of the Light Craft Workshop Fader ND filters - which apparently is now upgraded to "Fader ND II"

It absolutely does the job and there's something very intuitive about being able to rotate it while on the lens. I would find it a pain to have to constantly switch and/or layer ND filters - the fader means you can dial in your aperture and shutter speed to whatever you think is best creatively, and simply rotate the filter until you have the desired exposure.

Does anyone who uses the Fader ND have any experience with a regular set of ND filter to compare quality?

I wish someone could do definitive test with the fader nd, I keep hearing such mixed reviews.

if you want 100% quality stick with fixed quality NDs, the fader just has that convenience factor to it when shooting on the fly. I personally don't mind using it for its convenience factor.
