Hi Folks,

I made this 8 minute documentary just for the fun of it. Hope you enjoy!

I hacked my GH1 about half way through this project, so the footage is as follows:

Journey #1 - GH1 (All AVCHD 720p60)

Journey #2 - GH13 (All AVCHD 720p60 w/ SH Bitrate of 38 and Overall of 40)

Journey #3 - GH13 (Mix of AVCHD 720p60 (w/ above settings) and 80Mbps MJPEG)

Hope you enjoy. :)

man you are so lucky living in a place that has scenery like that i was amazed, stunning! cool docu too! i think you did really well, id maybe say it lacked some graphic overlays of some kind, would have been cool to have seen the names of the mushrooms and plants at the bottom of the screen when you were holding/around them.
i enjoyed watching

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, I feel lucky to live in such a beautiful area. My house is about 6 miles from most of the trailheads in this video.

I agree that I could of done more cool stuff in the post-process. I had about 2 hours worth of footage that I trimmed down to 8 minutes and that took a lot of time. By the time I was organizing the sequence I got a little impatient and just wanted to be finished. :)

hahaa i know exactly what you mean! i get that lets just get it finished feeling sometimes too
6 miles! i cycled 26 miles on my bike today and couldn't get anywhere as isolated as that! sometimes i'm glad tho... i've seen deliverance! haha
look forward to more

Excellent stuff there, it reminded me of Les Stroud's Survivorman shows, especially the shots of you walking past the camera with some mindblowing scenery in the background. I love the autumn colours in the meadows and the contrast between the rocks, snow fields and lush greenery around the streams. Nice disclaimer at the end too, just in case some unfortunate bloke decides to try some wild mushrooms and ends up in the hospital :)

Yeah - you have a nice natural style of presenting, and picked some great set ups for your shots walking past the camera.

Assuming you were out walking by yourself it must have been a royal pain in the arse going out of your way to set up some of the longer shots... then having to walk all the way back to get the camera again.

That was shot and edited quite nicely. It shows what one person with a camera and a tripod can do. Maybe you could sell that to your local PBS station? Anyway, I hope you do more state park videos.

Thanks everyone for the compliments! :)

To Rambex - Thanks so much! Honestly I think this video is a little cheesy and I know I could do much better, but it was fun to make and was relatively quick and easy (three days of shooting and two days of post processing).

To The Doc - Yes, it was a bit of a pain, but I got used to it. I was actually running more than walking. Basically I did the following: Find a nice scene, set up the tripod (which was fast because I was basically carrying the tripod with the camera mounted to it), quickly set the manual camera settings, focus on an object roughly the distance of where I planned to walk, hit the record button, run like hell to the starting spot, walk calmly through the scene, run like hell back to the camera and stop recording. I did this a couple hundred times so it actually became a rather quick process.

To Ragnar - Thanks! I am pretty much a one man show so I have to figure out how to do it all myself which can be both fun and challenging at the same time. I have actually been fantasizing about doing a web series at some point which follows some of my crazy adventures in the wilderness (the hikes in this video were rather tame compared to my usual outings), but with winter coming on I am less inspired.

I really liked it. I watched the whole thing and I hardly ever make it through any videos on the web that are 8 mins. long.

Thanks! My first cut was 10 minutes and I was trying to get it down to around 6-7 minutes but finally settled with 8. I know that people tend to lose attention after 4-6 minutes for web videos so I am happy to hear that the video is inspiring people to watch the whole thing. :)
