FS7: Native ISO for Hypergammas

Native ISO is 2000 in CineEI mode but I recall reading somewhere that STD gamma is rated at 800, Hypergammas 1-4 are rated 800 and Hypergammas 7 and 8 are best rated ISO 1600. Just searching the web franticly and can not find the article.

I'm away from the camera so can't test by setting 0db and changing switching over to ISO mode with the various gamma curves applied.

Could someone be kind enough confirm what the recommended base ISOs are for shooting in custom mode using Hypergammas?

Thanks,

Surinder.

I don't know what the native ISO is but I do know that you can record the std gamma up to 12dB gain (3200 ISO?) without seeing bothersome noise. Should be similar for hypergammas.

Thanks for the reply Lenilenapi.

I too have used Custom Mode and Hypergammas up to ISO 2000 and it's been a noise free experience. Haven't yet tried going any higher.

If I recall just as ISO 2000 preserves the maximum dynamic range of the camera in Cine EI there are different native ISO setting for the Hypergammas that deliver the most dynamic range. For example reducing the ISO too far impacts the dynamic range.

I use to rate my F3 at ISO 400 for the Cinegammas 1-4 and 800 for SLOG. I remember reading an article somewhere on the interweb about the FS7 having different native ISO's for STD and Hypergammas. But I have searched and can no longer find that info.

Could someone please chip in here and let us know what the best ISO settings for DR are in Custom Mode using the Hyperamma curves?

"there are different native ISO setting for the Hypergammas that deliver the most dynamic range. For example reducing the ISO too far impacts the dynamic range."

That's actually a good point I hadn't thought of and its a good question.
