Native glass on the af100a

Like most PannyCams, the af100a has a 1/8" plug for remote control of iris and focus and another for stop-start and zoom. This is needed for flying on a crane or other remote control operations. Do all the Lumix lenses work with these functions? Are there any Lumix lenses that don't?

TIA

I believe all Lumix lenses work with iris, and all autofocus-capable Lumix lenses (which should be all of them, but I'm leaving the possibility that there may be a manual-only I'm not thinking of). stop/start is for recording, so it has nothing to do with the lens.

For zoom, the lens would need to have a zoom motor in it for that to work. There are two Lumix lenses that have it, most don't.

Thanks Barry,

Offhand, do you know which lenses are motorized? Have mercy, save me pawing through all the lens specs.

Thanks again Barry.

I'm wondering how well these might work with the various remotes when mounted on the AF. There isn't too much love for these lenses otherwise. I use the Manfrotto pf521 for focus and aperture on my hpx170, and it is the beezneeze for an economy crane setup. Seems like this might not be so wonderful on the AF.

Any other comments appreciated.

I use the Manfrotto 521PFI on the AF100 and it works on most Lumix lenses. (However, some units need to be calibrated to work properly with the AF100, ymmv.) The 521PFI focus control does not work on some Four Thirds lenses, which require the Four Thirds to Micro Four Thirds adapter to mount on the AF100. However, the Panasonic 25mm f1.4, Olympus 9-18mm f4-5.6, 14-35mm f2, and 35-100mm f2 zooms work well with the 521PFI, as do the native Panasonic MFT zooms.

I own both lenses mentioned by Barry and also the Manfrotto remote controller. Zooming goes very well on the 45-175 mm, you have even two different zoom speed options. Also very favorable is that focus does not change much during zooming. Unfortunately, the clicks of the iris during zooming are noticeable. I used that lens and the above mentioned remote controller for example in this video:

If you look for a Lumix lens with a smooth iris, the Leica/Lumix 45 mm macro lens is probably one of a kind. I bought it recently and it looks like the AF100 can in auto mode adjust the iris of this lens without clicks. Here is an example:
