If you are loading the GH13 hack on your GH1 and you run into "Native Freeze"
(i.e. no buttons work on the camera, including the on/off switch), then you may be in the same boat as me.
It may be that your camera is unhackable or that you are just doing it wrong (as I have been). I will update this post as I discover my solutions but you may follow along with me on your camera, if you like.
First, find out if your serial number (found on the bottom of the camera) corresponds to one of the known working models.
The following was copied from ZCream's "GH1 and GF1 valid serial range"
The third number in the serial seems to be the year of manufacture, so 9 will work and 0 may or may not work.
For GH1 these seem to work
WE9XXXXXXX
These may or may not work.
WE0XXXXXXX
These may or may not work
FS0XXXXXXX
Now, put the cameria into TEMPORARY SERVICE MODE and check the firmware on your body model.
If the firmware is 1.34 or later, it isn't hackable.
IMPORTANT: YOU CANNOT SEE THIS SIMPLY BY LOOKING AT THE "VERSION" in the camera's menu. You must put the camera into TEMPORARY SERVICE MODE.
Vitaliy Kiselev, inventor of the PTool software (read: GH13 hack) posts these instructions for going into temporary service mode (with some rewording on my part)
WITH THE CAMERA OFF
1) Load an SD card that has some data (pictures/movies, etc.) into the camera
2) Double-Check that the dial ontop of the camera is rotated all the way up to SINGLE SHOT MODE.
3) Press and hold the buttons marked DISPLAY+FILM MODE and TURN THE CAMERA ON.
ONCE THE CAMERA IS ON and you are in "Error code table"
1) Now, press and hold LEFT ARROW BUTTON + MENU/SET and press FILM MODE.
IF YOUR CAMERA APPEARS TO BE HACKABLE, you are in the same boat that I am in.
Svecher suggested this:
Joe, please start a new thread for new topic. Obviously, you are able to apply patched firmware. Just don't check Native 24/25p to avoid "native freeze".
I will post a vimeo with the results, later.
