NASTY artifacts in 1080p30 PH in FCP

Tonight I shot a clip about 24 minutes long... this was NOT spanned (the MTS file was 3.41 GB). About 20 minutes into the clip, I start getting ever-changing artifacts like this:

Seems to play back OK in the camera. Re-transferring to FCP yields exactly the same result. Anyone see anything like this? It's kinda cool... the patterns in the artifacts kinda reflect whats in the image in a weird dreamlike way. My guess is this has something to do with the "multislicing"?

I'm avoiding PH for now... but I'm pretty durned happy with 1080/60i at 1/30th!

Haven't seen anything like that with any PH footage I have shot and transcoded. The only time I ever see artifacts is in the source window of Premiere CS4 with camera original .mts footage, but the artifacts disappear in the program monitor when you play the clip back from the timeline.

Your issue seems to be isolated to the transcoding process, which is good, considering it's not affecting the original. If the issue consistantly shows up with the same method of transcoding you have been using, I would suggest trying a different NLE, or method of transcoding in the meantime to try to get a better result.

I got this in spanned clips as well.. or in footage done through FCP. So far, the intensity card is the only way I've gotten clean video on longer clips. The 5 minute clips are fine.. but longer than that and it gives off these type of stuff.. FCP will get updated.. just the fact of being on the bleeding edge.

URGENT
I am having the same problem with the artifacts.
I am shooting on teh AG HMC 152 EN on grade 6 16 and 32 mb high quality cards.
I don't know what to do.
It doesn't appear on the card when I play it back in the camera.
Is it something in the Log and Transfer?
Is it a problem with FCP?
I shoot long takes, is this a problem.

PLEASE HELP, ADVISE.

THANK YOU.

If you've got access to a PC, you might want to try downloading the trial version of Sony Vegas Pro 9, and see if the problem still appears. Vegas can work with AVCHD files without transcoding.

I am on a MAC using FCP 6.0.4 I don't know what to do with the artifacts. Is it because of the shutter speed? or is it because of the length of the shot?

WHAT ELSE CAN I USE ON A MAC TO AVOID THIS.

PLEASE ADVISE.
