Narrow Depth of Field wanted.

Hi

Just wondered if any one can advise if there are any add-ons or tricks techniques etc. that I may not have come across that will allow me to shoot interviews with a narrow depth of field.

I'm usually shooting in quite tight surrounds so can't really get loads of distance between the camera and the talent or the talent and the background so is there anything perhaps I can add to the HPX to allow me to shoot better interviews at close quarters.

Thanks

Thank you - can you suggest any links to suitable equipment?

The 35mm adapters I have seen in the past all use a rods system and they look quite a cumbersome addition - are they all like this? - or is there any lens that will just attach to the front like a anamorphic adapter did to the dvx100??

Yes, the systems use rails. The adaptors are heavy and have dynamic motion so they need to be affixed to something solid. Some find rails cumbersome, I find them a godsend. To each their own.

And no, there are not any that attach to the front of the lens like an adapter. The optics simply don't work that way.

One of the reasons you find people flocking to purchase cameras such as the Canon 5D/7D and Panasonic GH1, is because they can offer the look you are talking about without using an adapter. And they are signficantly cheaper in price than our professional video cameras. THey have other drawbacks, but they are the cheapest way currently to get that "look".
