Narration & Voice over recording setup

I'm trying to connect an XLR cable (Condenser mic) to my computer so I can record quality sound. (Narration)
what is the best setup for this?
I searched, and it seems like I need a mixer to connect the mic to my computer but is that the only way? if I need a mixer, what kind of connections should it have?
for example, is the Behringer 802 mixer a good choice ?
I think it only connects to the computer with RC cable(Red&White) but am I going to lose quality with that? is a USB or Firewire connection better quality?
I'm new to Audio recording so any advice will be great!

A mixer with RCA output will still need to be converted to connect to the computer. You need an interface, either USB or FireWire. There are plenty of cost-effective USB interfaces with XLR ins. Do you need phantom power (i.e. are you using a condenser mic)? Most 2-channel USB interfaces will offer phantom, but not all, so read the specs. There are also some smaller mixers from Yamaha and Soundcraft that have USB connectivity for recording straight to a computer.

Also, what software will you be using to record?

The Lexicon Lambda and Omega interfaces are pretty good for the money. Those come with Cubase LE software... decent, but certainly not the best. It'll be plenty for recording VO and exporting an AIFF for your edit.

Thanks for heading me to the right direction.
yes you're right, I need an interface to connect it. not a mixer...

I will be using GarageBand and Logic Studio on a Mac.
phantom power is a must so I need to find a good audio interface.
got to do some searching again!
thanks

The Lexicon boxes, as well as the little USB interfaces from M-Audio and Presonus, should be perfectly compatible with GarageBand and Logic.
