Napoleon Dynamite

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

yes I here that.. He basicly did the same to Adam Sandler...
I guess somthing changed becuase he is working with Adam now the Paramount Picture. I dont know if it was the same thing Adam origonlay pictched to him or if it was somthing Paramount did.
At any rate... I guess we all can dream...

"I dont know if it was the same thing Adam origonlay pictched to him or if it was somthing Paramount did."

I'll tell you exactly what it was. A bankable star with the power to get a project greenlighted pitches you on a project. Maybe it's not your favorite actor, but you swallow your stupid pride and make the goddam film. When the ring comes around, you'd better grab it because you might not get another chance.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I love that avatar.

I can't wait to pick up the DVD. I really want to see the "making of" featurette.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I had to dig this thread up and throw some love out to Napoleon Dynamite. Saw it for the first time last night... loved it! Gosh! I'm gonna watch it like infinity times.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I saw this last night, and went in with great anticipation of huge laughs (because of all the hype that it was so funny) after watching the first 20 min or so, I had not laughed once. I was thinking, there must be a bunch of people out there (millions in fact since it grossed what/ close to 50 million dollars) with a strange sense of humor. Then all of the sudden, it started getting really good. You've got to love Uncle Rico! and some of the dialogue was so quirky I just loved it. I think I will say to my girlfriend the next time I see her " I caught you a delicious bass" too funny. Hats off to Jared Hess and company for making a very different and non commercial film, that had me laughing and made for a good evening of entertainment.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

Sorry guys, I didnt see what was so great about this movie. Right after work, I immediately bought the dvd and told all my friends "movie at my house!"(that dvd tuesday was basically my friday since I had the rest of the week and weekend off). Laughs were few if at any. As the credits rolled, everyone shook there heads, and all I could do is apologize. I told them "my friends in film class said it was great(which 2 people did), and I read great reviews on the net(DVXUser)." And all everyone said was "dude, you wasted your money" or "your filmschool friends said what?! Those filmschool guys who hate George Lucas because its "indie student" status quo?! Are they on crack?" Luckily I got Collateral and Shaun of the Dead(both excellent films)the next week, and so they forgave me.
On a my own personal/filmaker level, I cant find one positive thing to say about this movie. Yeah, it was edited it on FCP. Whoopee. Robert Rodriguez this director is not. On a hip teen dialogue level, Kevin Smith this writer is not. If you were going to cast Poindexter from Revenge of the Nerds as your lead, you could at least put Booger in as well. I hated how there were no CU shots on people EVER(yeah, film's expensive, whatever-hello!! storyboards)!! I learn more about cinematography from watching an average episode of Law and Order. It felt like a beginning film student got a million dollars to make his FIRST film. Someone convince me I didnt waste my money.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I enjoyed the movie for its simplistic style and quirky humor and bizarre nature. :P It was never intended to be a cinematic masterpiece, but a light-hearted nerdy comedy. If there is anyone in your past that mildly resembles any of the characters, you find this movie hilarious. Which I did and do. I also thought Shaun of the Dead was hilarious, but my brother saw it and just said it wasnt nearly what he thought it was going to be and didnt like it at all.

Diff'rent strokes?

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

that's what I was going to say. The city I live in it played at an art house theatre for like 20 weeks but that theatres on the other side of town and sucks, so I waited and waited till it came to the dollar theatre ( this 12 screen multiplex built buy cinemark 5 blocks from my place that was put up in 96' now shows second run film for $2.50, my cousin in So Cal saw it at the edwards 4 times, and constantly praised the film. Then after what seemed like an infinite amount of weeks in release it came dec 10th, I was like what the hell was he talking about. It stuck in my mind. I went in judging the film over everything the other people had said was great. over the next couple day's I went from this film is blah to buying it and having watched it 5 or 6 times. I was even listening to the commentary when I saw this post. for $400,000 we can all take note. it doesn't take an effects ladden film to win at the box office, but a completely new and original film. And it's originallity kept people talking, and the word of mouth is what kept it play for around 30-40 weeks in the theatre. I mean it's still in the theatre here and on DVD.
