Re: Napoleon Dynamite

Do you realize that Napolean Dynamite is *still* in theaters. It opened in June on SIX SCREENS and the box office gross is currently over 35 million. Over three months later, it's on 1027 screens and it took in 5 mil in the last *2 weeks*. This is the dream scenario for an indie film--it's become a cult film.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

yeah garden state is still in theaters too. Its been at this one theater in my town since like august 15.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

Again, I loved Napolean D., but I also loved Kung Pow. (Big fan of the old dubbed karate action flicks, I am!)

Look at that group photo! That just proves what a good costume/make up department can do!

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

If you are looking for the scoop on Napoleon Dynamite... here is it is
This is according to Jared Hess's Uncle who is a close family friend. Bob Hess.
From what I understand the movie started out as a 10min short called "Palooca" (If that is how you spell it. It was sent to Slam Dance and others and as you know won a lot of awards. I understand it was a year later with a budget of $200.000 key investor was the "1800collect biplane dude".
the budget almost doubled fox searchlight bought it because of the music cost. They wanted to change some or all of the music to more modern music. Anyway... They bought it for close to 5 mill and after paying everyone off he made roughly 3 mill.
Bob, his uncle who is in the advertising business asked his wife if it has gone to his head yet. She said "No it hasn’t but I am having a pretty good time with it. I just hired a gardener."
Two weeks after it was released Jared got a call from Bruce Willis, stating that his family just seen it a week ago, and that they loved it. and his kids are going around the house quoting the movie.
He asked him is he would like to work on a project he was working on. Jared said he couldn’t commit to anything till he talked with his manager.
Two weeks after that Adam Sandler called him form Calf. Stating somewhat of the same. (Jarad doesn’t like Adam that that well or his movie style anyway.)
Last Sunday Bob came over to visit and I asked him what was the latest.
Jared is currently working with Adam Sandler under "Paramount Pictures" to produce a Spanish comedy. Jack Black as I understand it has already been cast.

Jared Hess is a BYU Film Student dropout. He told his family that he doesn’t need school to make it in the business...
I think he has proved that.
I just thought you might want to know

I thought the movie was great myself… simple and stupid and means nothing. Go to laugh your ass off.
This humor is not for everyone but as stated before… I is becoming a cult movie.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

Bryster--thanks for the inside scoop. I can only dream about blowing off Bruce Willis. ;D
