Napoleon Dynamite

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

c'mon guys we can come up with a script like that
and make a fun film
can't we??????????????????????????????????

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I'm trying to achieve a sort of 80's look and that kinda had it.

If you want that 80's look, shoot on SVHS.

I never saw napoleon dynamite but that lead red haired character looks ca razy. Dude kinda looks like carrot tops half brother.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

The ring was okay, I liked it. I saw the Japanese version before the american version. So I already knew what was going to happen. Same with the GRudge or" Ju-on" the japan version. I only saw the japanese version. Never had time to see the The grudge. Nothing scares me more than a midget with fangs wearing a GAP tshirt. Nightmares man, nightmares.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I saw the original "Grudge" (Japanese), I thought it was creepy overall, plus there were a few scary moments where I almost pissed my pants.

I haven't seen the re-make, but it is made by the same guy. In fact, I read somewhere that this is the third time he made the same film. I think he shot on video originally for Japanese TV, then remade it on film for Japanese theatres and now the American version.

I also think there was a Korean re-make as well.

The same film done at least four times in the last three years!

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

ha! I just opened a Christmas present and it is a Nap D shirt with NUMCHUCKS, and it says "Flippin' Sweet!" and there is a Vote for Pedro button pinned to it, too!

;D

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I shopped. I bought. I watched. :)

I crack up everytime I see him watching Pedro jump the ramp on the bicycle. There is this long spiderweb thread blowing in the wind off the top of Napoleon's head. ;D

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

Just watched this picture finally. Such an embarrassing, accurate study of the eighties - what a wreck. We spent the first minutes of the film trying to nail down the year, then shifted our focus to John Gries. Uncle Rico is one of the funniest, most sublime characters I've seen in a long time. Two sauce pans have never been funnier on-screen.

Like Wes Anderson, Jared Hess has got a keen ear for dialogue - I can't wait to see what he develops next.

I think this picture can serve as a great example for that fellow who posted a few days ago about his desire to maintain control over his script after selling it to Hollywood.

Mr. Hess did just what was suggested in that thread: shoot your own show to your own script and make the picture you want to see. I absolutely think this could have been shot on DVX 24p instead of film.

Perhaps more care would be needed to control latitude (e.g., ND3 applied to all practical windows; more interior fixtures required) but I think the show's flat, stark style is perfect material for DVX acquisition.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I cannot understand why anybody liked this movie. I was in a theatre where everybody was laughing while I just scratched my head. "What's so funny?" It's like that episode of The Simpsons when Homer is watching that famous public access guy who all the weird public access people think is hilarious. And they're all laughing at everything he says and Homer is completely confused because it's not funny. So he thinks there's something wrong with the TV and starts banging it screaming "That's not funny! What's wrong with this TV! That's not funny!!" Maybe you have to be high when you watch it. Because I'm pretty sure everybody in the audience was.

The Ring, on the other hand, was a good movie. And I'll tell you why. Throughout the entire movie they played it out like they were going to find a logical explanation for all this. There were a few fantastical elements (fly on screen) but it wasn't enough to push the movie into the supernatural genre. So you believed there was logic coming. That's what made the freaky girl coming out of the screen so ****ing scary. In the theatre that I watched that movie, nine people RAN OUT of the theatre at that moment, three of them screaming. I have NEVER seen that before.

Anyway, is there a way to find out which Simpson episodes Conan O'Brien wrote?

c.g.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

oh, p.s., like someone mentioned earlier. The reason I hated Napolean Dynamite was because I kept waiting for a story. And there was none. I'm not a big fan of movies without stories unless they have characters I like. Napolean was an interesting character, but gimmicky, and his schtick wore off on me after the first 3 minutes. :(

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

CG, that's how i felt about Kill Bill. Although I haven't seen N.D.

But, yah... it was bullshit, no offense to quentin...
