Napoleon Dynamite

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

Hey man... If Disjecta can emulate I-Max with a DVX 35mm shouldn't be too hard eh :)

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

:D

The cinematography wasn't really anything jaw dropping. You could easily achieve something similar* to that look.

*As Barry says, "At some point you just have to face the fact that your not shooting with a 35mm film camera."

EDIT: Oh, and the movie was hilarious.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

lol the dancing bit at the end was classic

loved the movie

and ya, can't make the DVX look exactly like 35mm because it will never be good as 35mm.. but you can get close

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

i dont understand why people like this movie, I thought it was flat out stupid

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

You either thought it was hilarious or completely dumb.

Same with The Ring, scary as hell or bored to death.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

Wow. Where do I begin? I've pretty much got the whole thing down in my head. I've seen it so many times that I can guess how many shooting days, and which scenes were shot on the same day and so forth...
Also, it was edited by the producer Jeremy Coon on FCP 4.5 and he was an absoute beginner. He had never touched the console before. Ever. That's encouraging, isn't it? As a result, the film wasn't professionally color corrected for any particular look or style...It's just yout basic uniform look...There's gross overexposure in some scenes, and some obvious dialogue looping as well...
Also, I haven't checked recently, but last time I did, it had done over 1000% (if my math is on) in profits...from a production budget of $200,000 and another bill of $200,000 on post (probably spent on equipment and hotel and telecine etc.)
So the filmmakers spent $400,000 on it, and it's made over 40 million. I'm predicting a crazy DVD sale too in a few weeks.
Incidently, after Fox picked it up, they spent 10 MILLION to advertise the movie...chalk that one up to the craziness of our industry.
What am I missing?
Also, even though it's a comedy, the actors were amazing.
aaron_ruell38.jpg
aside from how fruity they look (lol) would you EVER guess that these guys are
aaron_ruell1.jpg
these guys...
It's just very simple filmmaking. The whole film was based on a well developed character who NEVER changes. Think about it...Napoleon has no discernable character arc...though the film still works.
It's far from visually stunning, but it's a great little story with great characters who could be dropped into any setting and do just as well...And it glorifies rural America like never before.
Can you imagine a sequel in the big city? Imagine Uncle Rico trying to pick up chicks in a starbucks! Imagine them all going to a restaurant and ordering flank steak. LOL....
Maybe it's just me...great movie.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I never saw it, but one of my friends said it was better than Dumb and Dumber and for that comment I attempted to rip out his heart. Kano style. He's still alive but we are no longer friends.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

BTW: I agree w/ the Ring comment. When I saw it in the theatres I was like: "wow, this is actually kinda scary". Then I watched it at home and thought "what the **** is this stupid, pointless, ****!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". So, ya, I know whatcha mean. :)

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

ha ha ha
I wanna go see it again
I didn't know about no Napoleon Dynamite until I saw the comercials I thought it was cool.
I'm trying to achieve a sort of 80's look and that kinda had it.
where was that at anyway? wasn't it like nowheresville Arkansa, Oklahoma? (flaming lips, who are suppossed to come out with their film "Christmas on Mars" u can see some of the trailers on their site)

do u guys think this willk become a cult film, define a generation?

yeah a sequel just at any metropolis in the US will be great

but I must admit Pedro looked TOO stupid at times, especially when they're having that party at the park with his family and he looks up to the sky, and makes a gesture, I tought that was flat out dumb

the grandma on that ATV....ha ha ha I was crackin'

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

yeah, it was mostly shot in Preston, Idaho...but all the cast and crew (okay, not all, but most of them) are out of Brigham Young University in UT.

As far as cult film...i've paid to see it 5 times...each time I brought more and more people. I've never hyped up a movie like that before or since...it's a gem.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I saw it either 4 or 5 times... I've never seen a movie in the theatres that many times. I knew that the wait between theater showing and DVD was going to be long, so I had to stock up on my Napoleon.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

it comes out December 21
but I know it's not gonna be the same
to see it at home, than to see it at the theater
it's just a whole different experience
I personally DON'T go to the movies
but this one just had to be the exception
Napoleon Rocks

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I think I'm at number 32.

Deb: I'm trying to raise money to go to college.
Kip: [from the background] Your mom goes to college.

LOL... I love Kip's look when he says that, and then when he turns he head .. that look LOL LOL

:P

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

The director, Jared Hess, is really on his way to having a great career. He signed with Moxie Pictures this summer and is keeping quite busy doing spot work, and I'm sure he has a feature not far off as well. Check out Moxie at http://www.moxiepictures.com.

Moxie also represents Wes Anderson, Cameron Crowe and Kevin Smith among other great directors.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite

I have my whole family saying "GOSH!"

and "infinity" has been grafted into the language...

"Peter, did you eat dinner?"
"GOSH, Adam, I already ate like infinity hours ago!"
