Naming a distribution company and hating life because of it.

Hello DVXuser! Long time no post for me anyways.

I'm having an issue at the moment, and that's naming a distribution company specializing in streaming and video on demand services. I should probably also mention this will be a customer facing site akin to hulu. So something crazy like most production companies, won't fly in this case.

Our team has been struggling to come up with a usable name (most domains are already taken, not hosting actual sites, just parked and chilling out. Which is incredibly annoying).

So I come here to see if anyone has any naming ideas since I'm pretty much out of ideas. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

Thanks in advance.

I did actually try that thread. And every other thread I could find in search.

It's astounding how many parked domains there are, there really should be some regulation into how many parked domains one can have. It makes this process ridiculous. I've been looking into mythology, ancient languages, anything that can easily be spelled/said that has anything to with...well anything for that matter. And all taken...

What I've learnt is this:
1) Short name (no more than two syllables).
2) Something you spell the way you pronounce it.
3) Something that says what you do.

In your case, will most of your customers know what distribution by cloud means? I'm not even sure I do.
Look at it from their perspective. If they rent movies online, that's their experience that they're paying for, so you might want to call it something like MoviesOnline or something.

That's a bad example, but I think you see what I mean.
Netflix is a good name, but I think that's taken.

What this guy said^^^^

I agree, I don't think I know what distribution by the cloud means either, isn't that basically what YouTube does? also, read up on clouds, maybe you'll find a cool, relevant term there

Everything you stream is from the cloud. It's storing data offsite as opposed to locally.

But we aren't really focused on pushing the cloud idea. I was just describing what we do, as best as I am able at the moment.

The issue is, the short name that is spelled simply is elusive. Literally everything I search is already taken and parked. Which is why I came here to see if people had ideas I hadn't thought of. And literally, every (useful) term related to a cloud is a taken domain.

Well the person that started Hulu tried to buy Lulu, and Lulu I knew had taken them to court over it (Lulu is located here in NC). Maybe you can be Vulu! :) Kinda combines Hulu and Vuze.

Vulu
Distromo
Fluxline
Visan

Just making more names up :) Didn't test any of them.

Common algorithm: Find two words that are related to what you do or what you aspire to. Use a syllable from each, possibly a third shared syllable. Join them and you have a new 'nonsense' word that hints at both descriptors. A thesaurus would help.

Another: Make a long list of two letter syllables. Make a second list of those syllables joined together that sound interesting, but have no particular meaning. Look those up to see if a domain exists.

You could always make an offer to purchase one of those domain names... that's the reason they're sitting there. They want to sell them.

Neither is pmdawn.com

Ugh, remember that horrible rap duo?

If you think the name is hard, wait till you get to the logo! :) I was at dinner last night eating sushi and the couple next to me were arguing about a business logo. The wife had paid a firm $600 to come up with a logo, and the husband wasn't impressed. He started drawing logos on a napkin or something and I was cracking up listening to them. (They had been drinking a little). "Look! It's a smile on a face, that's what people need to see, and a clipboard in an arm!"
