NAB Rumors?

Any scoop on whether or not we'll have a beefier AF100 with P2 cards at NAB? Seems like the rumor mill is usually buzzing by this time of year...

no rumors as of yet.
but looking at the current selling price of the af100, there is something brewing

I hope to goodness, the AF??? stays with SD cards, at the UHS speeds now? That's where it is. I'd hate to have to now switch back to P2 after selling off my HPX.

What are you talking about? It's still selling for $4,795 from the biggest-volume dealers. There is a mail-in rebate of $500 right now - but that's not much different than the other offers (like the free lens) from the past year.

I wouldn't garner ANYTHING from the current (still holding steady) pricing.

I think you're correct in that, if there were something about to happen, there would be a lot more buzz and rumors than we're seeing.

Also keep in mind that IIRC, NONE of the big camera announcements of late (AF100, F3, FS100, C300, Scarlet etc.) were made at NAB.

So I wouldn't put too much stock in NAB as THE launching pad for big camera announcements, including an AF100 replacement.

...and one more thing: A large number of things announced/shown at NAB often take a LONG time to become available.

I got burned by this last year when I got excited about a lot of really cool accessories that I thought I'd be able to get my hands on within a month or two - and actually were 6 or 7 months before there was any resonable availability.

Not sure if this is worthy of the rumor mill or not, but I've been at BVE all week and Panny's (quite large) stand didn't have any Af100's on it at all. Weren't interested in showing it, or pushing it in any way. And the marketing manager gave his usual 'no comment' sly smile when I asked about new models. Come on Panny, I'm about to jump ship for Sony, give me something to change my mind!

Compact 2/3" camera with 100Mb/s AVC Intra 10 bit 4:2:2 and 22x IO lens. (HPX-250, but larger chip). Waterproof, ruggedized, and interchangeable lens option. P-Log with chroma cut-off corrected gamma curves. Waveform. A wildlife shooters dream...

The price of the AF100 is $4349 from BH after you add it to your cart, and then you get another $500 back through some promo.

This is a compelling deal for sure, but the problem is that it's only valid for the US....Canada always gets the f******** shaft when it comes to pricing. Vistek is a rip off, especially for accessories. Luckily I have a contact in the States (unless I can find a used one at a good price).

I've told Panny practically every time I've seen them that I'd buy a fixed lens compact camcorder with high bitrates and a M43 sensor. An HPX-250 with a M43 sensor please!

its 4349 at BH + rebate of 500 if you amex. thats 3895. Thats a steal.

with the dropped prices im expecting a bigger brother HPF200 or something..
it cant be a rehash AF. thats too disappointing.

Well , I don't know for you guys, but i am considering a Nikon D800. 4:2:2 out via HDMI; remote control of focus/iris and other functions, full frame and APSC; iso 100-6400(25000); The use of all my Nikon Lenses.

I played with a D800 this week at BVE. For a DSLR it's very impressive and I toyed with the idea of switching for about 30 seconds. I had really liked the idea of swapping between FX and DX mode, but the real let-down with that is that when you switch to DX mode, the evf and liveview don't actually change to fill the screen with the DX crop, it just adds a DX sized guide to the FX sized image. It makes it a loss less intuitive to shoot that way. Plus, of course, at the end of the day it's still a DSLR so you need a Pix 220 to make it work properly with decent audio, and even then it's only as good as the AF101.

I have absolutely no inside information but as long as we're speculating...I'd bet Panny will have some type of large format camera at the $15-20K (like Sony/Canon) price point. It will be a "better" camera than the AF-100. 3 to 4 times better? You all will be the judge. Will it be the "perfect" video camera? Will it be the next "Betacam"? (Panasonic wishes :-) I've owned video cameras for 35 years and I've never made more money with any of them than this little camera. There's always a "new" camera and as a business person it can keep you broke buying the latest, greatest one. Then again Panasonic could have no new offerings.

You might be right, but as long as Pana doesn't come with something better than the AF100 - which I love -, the Nikon is high on my list as my next camera. What I like to have from Pana is something like the 250 with SD-cards iso P2-cards, larger sensor - and at least APSC, ISO 100-12800 for a price under 10k. to be used with Nikon/Canon lenses or new Pana lenses for that matter. What is very interesting of the Nikon is the ability to do remote focus on an Ipad(whatever) WITH AN OPTIONAL TRANSMITTER/RECEIVER

No inside information, but I predict that Panasonic will be announcing not an AF100 replacement, but affordable fast cinema-style zooms for the AF100.
(At least I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll introduce such lenses.)
