What kind of announcement do you guys think sony have for NAB 2014 about the F5 and F55 Cameras.
For my the only reason I don't buy one of this camera is the Lack of compressed RAW recording.

What do you guys think is the F5 and F55 biggest problem?

- new body style version of the F5/F55.

- new ProRes & DNxHD codec will require AXS-R5 raw recorder to work. (I hope I'm wrong on that, but had some insane theories about it mostly surrounding the data rates needed to do decent ProRes...)

For me the only problem with the F5/F55 (which it has had from the beginning) is trying to be a camera for every market segment in the world. Broadcast, cinema, etc.. In other words someone always finds something wrong with it or what it doesn't do well.

Hence maybe the real problem are with the people who expect too much. :)

New body style?

They twitter teased a CA-4000-like ENG body add on to make the ENG folks happy.

Smart business I suppose, but not something I particularly need.

I'd prefer they get their firmware fast and mature. This LUT turning off on over cranking business has me rolling my eyes.

Yes, it sounded like Dennis was saying there was a new body design. That would have me leaving the business for good ;-)

Imagine an F800 style body with a hole in the center that would accept the F55 or F5 body as the core of the camera. Now you have the idea. If you want to rig your F5/F55 like a traditional ENG camera (XLRs at the rear, shoulder pad, better headphone jack placement, integrated microphone slot, traditional WB and Gain toggle switches, etc. now you'll have that option without buying a whole new camera.
Look for a release in 2015.

that sounds great to me!

Doug, did you just throw a "hail mary" or is this confirmed what Sony is releasing? To be frank I was assuming something similar. Hard not to with their ENG shadow teaser.

That would be an incredibly difficult task engineering wise.
Not to mention reliability.
It's more likely that they will release the descendant of the F800 PL with the F55 sensor and lower price tag

I suppose. But they more or less gave away what it was by the twitter tease picture, coupled with Peter's words in the Sony forum.

I don't see why it's any more engineering intense than the CA-4000 adapter body they already have made and shipped.

I forgot about that one.
I suppose they could put some different guts into that box.
like what?
XLR are there (on the current body), so are SDI and TC outs.
Internal recording is there.
Few toggle switches? move the mic port?
audio meters? aren't there soft audio meters on the screen?
It's got to be more than that- this box does not look cheap...

Price should come in around $10K. When mated with an F5 or F55 the total cost will still be below the cost of an Arri Amira -- which this new device is designed to counter.
But at the end of the day, the Amira will still be an HD only camera without all the bells and whistles offered by the Sonys.

Some if it based on things I had unofficially "overheard" and some of it is speculation. But now that I have been officially briefed today I am not at liberty to say anything more about it because of my NDA. It will be an interesting NAB.

Sounds good Doug, that works for me.

So... what does your "gut" tell you about a 4K compressed option coming to the F5? ;-)

Oh man, if I could only say something. There is a very interesting bit of news regarding the F5 that will create quite a stir. But you'll have to wait. Sorry.
