NAB 2021 Already Being Pushed Back

Smart. October should be safe. April still a question mark.

But also an indication that, due to uncertainty, the recovery will take a little longer for people who work on stuff with long lead times.

Yesterday I had shoots pop up for Thursday, Saturday and Monday. I'm used to stuff coming in on short-notice, but this is still unusual. I believe the trend is that people don't want to book things very far away.

You cant put together a broadcasters conference with a week's notice.

This tells me that our trade show live stream virtual booth/alternatives are going to be even healthier in 2021 than 2020 has been.

Ca-CHING! Cashing in on the virus. There's always a silver lining.

Will the handshake policy still be in place? I won't go if there isn't a handshake policy. There must be a handshake policy. ... Doesn't there??

Remember this from the NAB website back in March? "We are implementing a “no handshake” policy at this year’s NAB Show to help reduce the unnecessary spread of germs."

I guess the necessary spread of germs will continue.

If by "cashing in on the virus" to you mean barely not going bankrupt while providing desperately needed marketing solutions to a 34 billion dollar per year industry that has been completely shut down and obliterated by Covid 19, while my own industry of EPK/BTS and documentary has also been essentially obliterated (I have not produced one piece of entertainment related media since March 2020), sure, I'm raking it in. My worse year in over two decades in production, let the yachts and caviar flow!

Schadenfreude much?

My deadpan sarcasm is sometimes out of place or misread. Hardly schadenfreude. You're one of the good guys Drift. I don't mean to poke you the wrong way.

Actually, I heard that puredrifting is working directly for covid19 now. That's where the smart money is. I, for one, welcome our virus overlords.

Natural move: there's a high probability that we won't be in "normal times" by March, plus companies are bleeding money and will welcome any cuts on unnecessary spending.

I'm also working for the virus now, BTW: half my day is spent looking at epidemic numbers...

Paul F, no offense, taken better to call me a Cockroach, surviving the apocalypse.

I saw that my existing business model was a no go for 2020 and now it appears for 2021. I'm not kidding when I say
I was looking at working in the local Amazon warehouse in March and April and I probably would have applied if it weren't
for the fact that the workers kept getting infected. I weighed making minimum wage versus the chances of bringing home the virus
to my family and decided to try something else.

Thankfully a couple of colleague/friends were in the same boat so we banded together to try to survive with live streaming and trade show marketing
videos and virtual booths, which we have done. The savings are depeleted though and while September and October are booked up, November and
December are pretty light so that old feeling of hitting an impending financial iceburg is still there. The past couple of years, business usually dies at the
end of November and often isn't back until March. We are hoping that all of these canceled trade shows will give us enough business to survive from my
friend's trade show exhibit company. He is a 5 million dollar a year business and has barely survived with PPP funding that is almost finished. 2020 has been
a real shitshow for so many of us.

Hang in there, it's an extremely tough year but you're doing great given all the **** we're living through

At least surviving, but would, of course, like to thrive again. And so many of my LA area production peeps are in the same boat. It's been brutal here to try to make money.
