NAB 2019 rumors (and releases)

And cheap compared to K35’s.

It is pretty clever that they have dimensions like the CN-E cine primes. So having two sets of lenses doesn’t change any configurations. Pretty nice to have.

Prices should come down as the market crowds, but what is nice, is they seem to be very sharp and modern, with less contrast. Unlike moajority of old vintage, like Zeiss SS which is super soft wide open and $10K a lens used. I do like old Zeiss standards and supers, but it is nice to see a new entry in the modern lenses that isn’t all about charts (and is relatively attainable to anyone who might care enough)

When I'm shooting Deadpool 3, I'll definitely check them out...or might save them for Wonder Woman 1984, I don't know yet.

Also, i am curious to see if freefly will release anything major for NAB or if they wait till Cinegear.
Vocas. Which i normally associate with broadcast, will not have a booth at NAB and they are focusing on cinegear. Perhaps the “cine” world has become more lucrative for accesories.

btw, liam, your website is really clean! Looks great!

Companies taking up the majority of ad space on the front of the conventiontion center:

In order of largest to smallest:
Black Magic Dsign (by a very large margin)
Decimator Design
Atmos (hdr shogun 7)
JVC with a wifi connect video camera
Amzon, Google, Ross

Dan from newshooter and philip bloom hangin at the atmos booth.

Atmos booth is huge. They have bmx bike half pip.

Canon and Panasonic are possibly bigger though.

Canon has the best looking booth so far.

Tilta has a Lambo.

Edit: Sony has the biggest booth, but was sectioned off, so i didn’t see it till just now. Also, a company call Everetz may be second largest.

For what it’s worth, Fujinon has the most plush carpet. Very welcom after walking all over the convention center. Definitely an oasis.

Black Magic Design's current website splash screen is exhibit A for why their competitors like Adobe and Avid who depend on revenue from post production software should be terrified. While it's hard to imagine a professional not being able to eventually afford a $299 tool, the free version of Resolve provides almost all of the functionality of the Studio version. The graphic below makes it clear that BMD's tools are already used to finish some of the biggest films in Hollywood, and with the free version of Resolve BMD has the enviable capability of attacking the market from the top and the bottom.

I doubt BMD will supplant Avid at the high end anytime soon but I think we are going to see Resolve used more in the indie space. If I were just starting out it would be the first tool I looked at, and I say this as a happy FCPX user.

I remember back in the day when they used to have cameras at NAB

After Effects integration will keep PP CC in the indie film space for a while. FCPX is taking the shooter/editor freelance space.

I use Davinci for coloring, and i no longer edit, but when i do...

BMD is pretty gutsy and their products are hitting all the right notes it seems.

Buzz words i am seeing and hearing:
8K
NDI (newtek)
IT
Cloud
Esports
...and a big one AI

Being that this is broadcast, there is a lot of tech that i am not involved with. Switchers, transmitters, it solutions, and so much more.

Heard a joke “i never metadata i didn’t like.”
