NAB 2013 predictions?

Rumour mill says Canon are announcing a camera that sits between the C100 and C300. My money is on a 5Dc.

I heard that a few months ago......a 5Dc would be interesting.....but then so would a C200.
I would have snapped up a C100 by now only for the crap evf and lack of 50/720p which is what I shoot with mostly on my Ex3 and 5D3.

If it is something like a 5D-C, at that price, with 4K/4:2:2 and the sharp 1080p crop mode.... I'd be all over it.

Having a top of the range stills camera that can shoot cinematic style 4K video ticks all my personal boxes. Especially under $8k

The waters are muddy imho. If they do offer a 5Dc what price makes sense? You can get the 5D stills version for $3,000. So that means if you want better video from a 5D you need to pay how much more? - $2,000 more, $3,000 more? $8,000 sounds very high just to add "good" video to the 5D MKIII. The 4k hype machine might give cloud cover to overcharge in this case. And you can bet it will not be as good as the 1Dc since feature hampering is becoming an art form over at Canon!

Isn't the 1D C a 4K DSLR? I doubt this will be a cheaper 4K camera. The tweets specified it will be a good thing for indie film makers to break into digital cinema. That sounds like low cost to me.
Perhaps a 1920x1080 video-dedicated DSLR? If it has 50mbps, 4:2:2, that would be amazing, but I'm guessing an AVCHD codec. Basically a C100 in a DSLR body, with 1080/50/60P. It'd have to lose the ND filter, I'd bet. Cost about $4-5,000.
Sound reasonable?

I think if it's a C200, it would be like a C100 with the XA20/25 codec and a few tweaks. Canon could price it around 9 to 10 grand. If it's a C50 they would have to loose the built in ND's and XLR's to get the price down. Maybe something like the Sony VG30.

I really don't believe it will shoot 4k..

Real 1080p with 4:2:2, maybe motion Jpeg, full frame/crop DSLR no moire etc... That would be interesting enough!!

I'd love JVC to take their 650 and its codec and reinvent an HM750 with a 2/3" chip.

Sort of a spiritual successor of the GY-DV5000.

All those great ENG lenses at a bargain price, a broadcast ready codec, 3x CCDs rather than all that Bayer Pattern stuff, a modest 9-10 stop range with highlight compression modes.

Not fancy, not Red Epic, just a camera that makes craftsman images, edit safe and full of detail with un-scary DoF and happy with its simple 1080p60 abilities.

With an affordable price tag to match. Loved the HD100's promise and feel as a shooting camera. Did great stuff as a DVCAM 'not quite an ENG' camera, lovely to shoot with.

'Come on, you JVCs!'

On the predicted Canon announcement- If it's a C200: How does that line up with the tweet that started the buzz....A C100 is cheaper for "everyone" to own a Cinema EOS model. If it's an $8000 DSLR: Again, that doesn't line up with the comments when it would be far more expensive than a C100. If the announcement is not for something that costs less than a C100, then this tweet *Got to bite my tongue for a few days but wow Canon has a really great announcement for Indies wanting to break into Cinema EOS* was misguided all along.

The announcement is probably only the reduced price C100 ($1,000 Instant rebate on the body and body/ kit lens promo). Which is exactly what works for me!

That's cool and all, that'd be "meh" for me...lol. Lots of cameras at $5000. All good cameras, just out of my range when you add lenses and everything.

A JVC 4K camera might come with a free interchangable lens. The lens might not be any good but at least you can upgrade to a better one when you can afford it.

I'm thinking C50 now...A "budget" cinema DSLR would just hurt the sales of their other DSLRs, and one around the cost of the C100, would have to be (by comparison) low on feature set to not hurt the sales of the 1DC.
Also would not be a step up enough from the MK3 for the price given that it can't have better cinema features than a 1DC. It just doesn't make sense in their current line up for a budget Cinema DSLR. If it cost around $4000, the C100 would be a better buy. If it was $2000 and had a great feature set AND a Cinema EOS badge, who would buy the 7D/7D MK2 or 6D. I'd love for it to be that...lol a $2000 Cinema Rebel even, but it won't be.

I very much doubt the Canon announcement will be a price drop for the C100, that would be what you call a "Laforet" (French for "anti climax")

Are you predicting, do have a good source or is this just wishful thinking? I'm open to another camera if the specs, design and quality (build and images) are right! What about others on the forum?

canonrumours.com had a post about a camera being announced tonight by Canon as NAB but have since deleted it.

What gives?

The C100 costs $5499 for body only, outside the US. So it would need to be on the lower end, closer to $4k.

JVC has already showcased a concept 4K camera with interchangeable lenses. Remember this is a repeat of the history of HDV. In 2003 the consumer HD1 was introduced and in 2005 the HD100 followed. In 2012 JVC a consumer 4K camera was introduced so the pro model might be introduced in 2014. JVC cameras seem to produce good as well as bad footage.
