n00b question on Nikon AF-S lenses.

So yeah, total newbie question. Do focus rings on Nikon AF-S lenses stop on infinity/macro? Or is it like Canon USM where the ring just turns and turns forever past infinity/macro marks. I understood AF-S to mean "Silent Wave" which is supposed to be a quiet motor like USM, but does that mean the focus ring can't stop like USM too? Thanks ahead of time.

they stop at infinite and macro
but u can still turn the ring more, but it kinda block at infinite and macro, hope its clear

but u can still turn the ring more,

How much more? As in the physical ring doesn't ever stop? I understand that the actual focus mechanism will have to stop either on infinity or a little past it to accommodate for temperature fluctuations, but I'm asking specifically about the physical ring that your hand touches, like say on the 17-35mm f2.8 and 28-70 f2.8. On Canon's USM, the physical ring never stops, regardless of whether the actual focus mechanism has already reached its limit. I'd like to know if Nikon's Silent Wave is the same. Thanks again.

yes, its like an infinity wheel or whatever u can call it

BUT u feel it blocks when u turn it, and then turning it past infinity is a little harder, there is a physical 'stop' that u feel when holding the ring but u can still turning it while it wont affect the focus anymore.

sry for my bad english, hope i answered you :)

The 17 - 35 is an old design - it stops (but check before you buy - dont take my word for it)

modern ones like the 14-24 and the newest 2 80-200s dont stop but do get stiffer

the newest 24-70 doesnt

as a rough guide I would say that the (older AF and manual) lenses with proper aperture rings DO stop but modern G lenses (no ap ring) dont stop
