AV Squad went backage at New York City's Roseland Ballroom to talk with N.E.R.D.'s Pharrell Williams and Shae Haley. Williams and Shae, who originally hail from the mega-producing hip-hop outfit The Neptunes, talked about the musical influences responsible for creating their rock-based band, N.E.R.D.. While there, we met music video director, Chris Robinson, who added his 2-cents about the band.

The interview was videotaped with the Panasonic DVX100 set to 24P (F5). The anamorphic lens was used; however, the anamorphic edit (timeline) was later droped into a 4:3 sequence for broadcast. The set was lit with 2-ARRI 300 fresnels and 1-ARRI 600 fresnel and audio was gathered with 1-Sennheiser me66/k6 shotgun mic and 1-Azden WLX-Pro wireless lav. The package was edited with FCP4.

I did some work with Pharrell when I lived down in Virginia Beach. Why was he holding the Lavalier Mic in his hand? That should have been clipped to his jacket. I like those Arri lights that were used. How did you go about covering up the cuss words? Did you have to play the word in reverse to get them to say "ISH"? Or did you just have them say "ISH" from the get go so you can just drop it in later? Lastly, is your work airing in the NY area on TV or Internet?

No kidding. That was Pharrells call. Not mine.

It's "sh*t" reversed or "f*ck" reversed as they say it.

Lastly, is your work airing in the NY area on TV or Internet?

AV Squad is aired nationwide on National Lampoon Network. The programming is pipelined directly into college dormitories via campus cable and it is also distributed via carriage cable to target off campus students. In NYC it air on Ch. 35, Sun. @ 7:30p on Time Warner Cable.

yes I am a big hip hop fan so I know what "ish" really means...I was just wondering how you covered up the profanity.

Cool, the only thing I would say is to change up the background a little for each interview if you can. Maybe carry a couple of colored cloths with you guys.
