just finished work on a little travelogue from my recent trip to italy. the stills were all shot with a lomo, and the video with the dvx. this is the first travel piece i've shot on the dvx, and of course i effin love it.

(and yes, i finally fixed the date on the norway section. thanks alpi for pointing that out!)

Re: myview: italia

This is beautiful work. It didn't feel touristy or like a travelouge but like a film. These are wonderful shots and looked some B Roll footage. I loved the little vignette and blur around the frame. The music on the first one served well.

Great job. (italia is my favorite)

Is that little yellow house SOMEONES HOUSE? :o

Re: myview: italia

thanks John. I think I prefer italia as well... while some of the shots from the dolomites might have been more visually remarkable, there's not much life to it. Maybe I should have been more brutal with the editing and squeezed it all into the one piece.

Those houses up in the mountains are so rad. They're refuges, you can hike from one to the next, spending the night and then moving on. Some of them are so high up that you can only get there on a trials bike or in a helicopter.

It's gorgeous up there; they shot Cliffhanger on some of the same mountains.

Re: myview: italia

Awesome stuff. Do they feed you at these little 'refuges' or are you bringing the trail mix? I loved the second one as well but felt the first one to be more intimate (the people). Great work.

Re: myview: italia

They feed you. Each refuge has these awesome little cablecars just for carrying supplies up the mountain.

God, I'm about to break into song or something.

Re: myview: italia

I caught the cable car shot going up the mountain.  I was thinking Bond was going to jump out.

Re: myview: italia

Too Effin cool. loved it all. Great editing... Great work Thanks for sharing :)

pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

were the stills taken with the DVX?

how about the Thailand clips what did u use for those?

Re: myview: italia

Amazing footage man, jeez its gonna be hard to convince me that was DVX.

how do you get that soft look around the image and border , in the first video there are several images like that example, the old guys sitting down talking, and the man looking through some eyepiece..

as asked before, settings..and did you use the anamorphic adapter? Tech info would be cool.

Fantastic work!

Re: myview: italia

Hi Jasonk, I had already your site on my bookmarks and I saw some of your work, I like your work. You seem lucky enough to travel a lot around the world. ;)

Very good photographies too.

Re: myview: italia

hard to believe it's not film. i think it is much nicer than the tourist shows i see on tv. i'm proud of the dvx.

Re: myview: italia

Excellnet work, i will be in Rome and Naples next month to visit family and you have me excited to bring the DVX.
Great editing and shot selection.

I really like the vignetting with black and the blur to bring your attention into the center. Did you create a mask in photoshop? How did you acheive it so smoothly?

Great work!!!!!

Re: myview: italia

sweet! looks really nice man! i like the italia one the most myself. there was an image in the dolomiti one that was like optical illusion...there was a shot where you were zoomed in on a house, and to me it looked like you were zoomed in on the house THROUGH a wierd piece of rock...then you pull out...then its like "huh?"...it was cool, i think it came from you messing with edge blur. anyway, gret lookin stuff yo!

im thinking about getting a lomo as well...i want something that can capture a little more interestingimage...im also thinking about a polaroid cam...any suggestion?

Re: myview: italia

its a little russian made camera....

http://www.lomography.com/

its like a point and shoot, but it seems to do more interesting things with color and stuff then a regular point and shoot....everything seems to come out a little more artsy and interesting. images also seem to be darkish around the edges. anyway, i think the images form them are really cooll....

i THINK this is the camera he has....

Re: myview: italia

Thanks Rich

Is this just normal 35mm film that you buy anywhere or is there a reccomended kind? (stupid question). I guess Im asking "What makes the imagery come out or the color saturation different?"

Re: myview: italia

i think you can use any old 35mm film...i think because the camera is russian it makes it all seem cooler...i dunno what makes it funky...i will probly order it this weekend. then mess around with it and see whats the dillio. i have seen a bunch of images from it, and i dig.

if im not mistaken....jasonk uses iso50 film?

Re: myview: italia

I used to have one, they are fun. They have funky shutterspeeds which is also why the pics look cool. Its deffinitly a fun play around camera.
