My wife was almost run over today. While sitting in a restaurant.

Steak and Shake is a dangerous place!

That almost happened at my office. Fortunately, the lady hit the corner of the building and didn't actually make it inside.

I've never seen certain co-workers move that fast before or since. :D

That's not very lite or upbeat! Hope nobody was hurt (but hard to imagine that not). Putting this eye-grabber to good use. Is there a category in dvxuser for product (that is, post-post-production) reproduction hardware for consumers-prosumers? It seems logical that there should be but I can't find anything. I want to know about AVCHD DVD/blue-ray disking and players/TVs that can are best for viewing GH13 44+Mbps video. The info that I've found suggests that most hardware's limit is around 24 Mbps. The native AVCHD 17 Mbps video can be put on a DVD and played in a Blue-ray player, but only about 30 minutes. That suggests only about 11 min for high powered GH13 video, even if there is consumer hardware to play it. I'm guessing that Blue-ray can do it, but what's the limit, and do I have to shell out the bucks for pro blue-ray authoring? Does somebody know where I can find a forum for this subject?

Wow, I hope everyone was OK!

Gavilan, please search the forum. This isn't the right place for those questions.

For the most part, everyone is fine. My wife is sore and has some symptoms of whiplash from the impact (her booth was scooted across the floor). One guy was pinned under the car and has a few broken ribs, another guy was pinned between the wall and his table - some bruised ribs, I believe. A couple people were cut from flying glass and my wife's friend (who is 7 1/2 months pregnant) started to go into labor but they've stopped that and she's fine. Overall, no serious injuries and nobody was killed, thank god.

An elderly gentleman hit the accelerator instead of the break, which is how it happened.

Jordan_S - I showed your comment to my wife. She started laughing. Very nice.

Glad everyone's o.k., please give your wife our best wishes for a fast recovery!

... this is why I think from the age of 70 up, a yearly test should be manditory to keep driving. This kind of thing happens all too often.
Vision, reflexes, hearing and a review of traffic rules couldn't hurt.
(don't mean to offend any 'older people'...I'm pushing fifty myself and I'm all for it.)

Thanks Zaza. Personally, I wish licenses expired every 3 years and everyone had to take a driving test to "earn" their renewal. We hear about elderly people driving into buildings all the time, but I've ridden with some terrible, terrible drivers in their 20s, 30s, and 40s too. I won't even get in the car with my boss unless she gives me her cell phone and purse. Otherwise she'll try to make calls and put on makeup while driving. It's frightening.

Miracle

Glad to here that nobody was seriously hurt... And, my apologies to all if my post offended anyone. This being a forum for DV, the post so short, the T-bone remark, I half felt it was a joke of some sort. Again, my apologies, especially to Butcher, because this could very well have been a very sad day for him and the family(?).

Driving is viewed as a right instead of a privilege, something I strongly disagree with. That basic concept is the cause of many deaths and injuries.

UPDATE: Another car wrecked into another restaurant in a town 4 miles east of ours. Apparently there's so little to do in Southern Indiana that this is the new, popular past time (besides making meth).

I'm going Amish. A horse and buggy can't plow through a building.

To add something, we live in a land where 4000 pound chunks of steel whiz by at high speed with only a few feet separating us from eternity. It is irresponsible to have a ground level establishment without monster cement filled steel tubes embedded in the ground along any wall shared with cars

Plus an anti-vehicle ditch and possibly a layer of vehicle-detonated mines, just to be absolutely safe.

Just sitting down in anything with four or more tires basically halves your functional intelligence before you even turn the ignition key. What surprises me is that this kind of grab-assery doesn't happen more often...

...very good news that no one got killed.

Batutta, tiger-maulings just come with the territory. We're all used to stuff like that.
