Warning! Strong language!! But lucky for you Attack of the show edited out the bad words.

I had an idea and I specifically made it to see whether it "could" go viral. However I did not expect it to go viral like this.
I was aiming for 100,000 views max.
It may get a million views by Sunday night and this video was uploaded last week. :Drogar-BlackEye(DBG

Here's the ATOS segment they did on it.

SPOILER!
Keep in mind that these guys are actors and that punch is real. I had to do 10 takes but they couldn't get it right so the last take he actually punched the guy. Of course it was an accident.

I spent about 3 hours shooting the whole thing. I wanted to experiment and test the waters with this clip. It's insane how its gotten on some of the biggest websites around.

I also like the fact how they analyzed my saber "physics" but the truth about it is I got lazy and didn't care about the physics of it. I got lazy after the 300th frame. Or else I would of made it nerd proof.

ps: Check out my latest director reel. I know shameless plug. Thanks. ;)

DAYUM. lol.

good job on the video.

i would love to hear about the strategy you used to get it to go viral.

I'd imagine a lot of it had to do with the title. <grin>

yes the title and tags helped. But it was ultimately the word of mouth via Facebook and forums. Then the content had to be good as well but I really had no idea it would take off this fast. The last time I kept track was the 4th day when it was at 4000 views. I was getting a thousand views a day for the first 4 days. On the 5th day I woke up and was astound that it was at 40 thousand views! Then I went to write on my FB saying thanks for spreading the word and the video had now reached 40k. I come back 2 hours later on youtube and saw the number jump from 40 to 90k. During that time youtube didn't say where all the traffic was coming from. So I was wondering who or what site set it off. By the end of the day that video jump from 90 to 200k in just a matter of hours. Then I started to google search and found a bunch of sources. I couldn't believe it was all over the major forums. Worldstarhiphop, viralvideos, ebaums, etc. A major networked even contacted me about their interest in the video. Can't say anything yet but it will go national if the show's producer approves of it. All that happend in one day. This is the second time a video of mine went viral. The first one wasn't staged but more of my embarrassment. That clip went on several networks including FOX. Sad that a video where I filmed in such poor quality get so popular. My other indie films gets no love. hehe

Nice, man! Congratulations!

Are those the tags you used initially or did you change them?
Did you do anything else except post it on youtube, like send the link to different websites?

Yes thanks everyone.

I did change it. Actually more like I took some of the tags out since one of the tags was lightsaber. Then I randomly added names like Jonnas brothers, etc. I always did that to my tags. There was always one tag that didn't match the video. I just added basic ones since the idea is to "trick" people in thinking that video is real. At least the first 20 seconds or so. I wish I could of gotten them to fight a little more "realistic" but with the 3 hours and lack of fighting experience my actors had they did the best they could and that punch sort of gave it that seal of authenticity.

So how often did you change the tags? Because it takes a while for them to start working, right?

I just did it once. I read on some forums that the tags gave away the twist. So i just removed it. I'm not exactly sure how long it takes for the tags to work.
At this point it doesn't really matter what I tag it. The video pretty much is catching on.

Fifty thousand views since I posted my comment a few hours earlier. Now approaching 1 million total. Comments coming now in Russian even.

I smell sequel...

I saw this posted on the front page of Reddit - awesome that it was done by a DVXuser! Congrats on the video, and well done.

We were just talking about this and you decided to do it... and did. Dude... congratulations... that is freakin' impressive.

That was a GREAT idea... This word is over used... but... AWESOME.

Hey I'm curious... what was the "arc"... i.e. so you posted it and how many views the first day, second day... etc? How did it "explode"... did you send it to any sites or did you just tell a couple friends and that was enough? Give us a recap... did you check it two days later and think "holy sh*t... 50K views!"...? How did it go down?

If you can somehow use this to bring attention to your indie films that would be great. I guess you didn't see this coming but you should of put a website at the end of the clip, almost a million views, even if half of those people went on the website it would of been great.

Maybe you should insert something at the end of the clip, I just watched it and saw no link to lead me anywhere else. You have to take this opportunity and run with it, FAST! As I'm sure you know, the attention span on the internet is short.

As people who hate football scour the internet for something else to watch today, I bet they will put it over 1 million.

Congrats!

Thanks,

My current uploads will usually get about a 1000 views a month then it just slows down from there. I have two youtube pages and ones that I consider "whatever" material I would throw on the Adaunn's site. However this gang fight video in particular was averaging 1000 views a day. By the end of the first day I notice it had like 1200 something views. I was quite shock since I get that in a month. The second day I saw it climbed to 2300 views. On the 3rd day the number went to 3400. I'm like, if I can average a 1000 views a day I'll hit 30 thousand no problem. I was like this isn't a bad thing after all. The 4th day, the number went up to 6000. Then that's where when the shock began. Youtube wasn't really giving me details on where the traffic was coming at least during that time. I later found out that FB was the primary factor of the high numbers. By the 5th day that's when it went viral. I woke up the 5th day seeing 20k then was like "Damn WTH!". That's when I posted it on my FB for the first time. I didn't before because of the strong language plus I didn't want this cute girl on my FB to think I'm some sort of gang member promoting violence. ;) So 2 hours after my post on FB one of the actors told me it's not at 20 its at 200k now. I went to double check and was just amazed and shocked how it jumped that high in just like 2 hours. Then my friends started to notice and about a dozen of them posted the video on their page. That's when I started to see it on a lot of these blogs, forums, etc. It just started to spread like a wild fire. The next day it reached half a million views. Then friends were texting me and telling its on big major sites plus some saw it on G4TV. So I guess it a factor of people spreading the word(link) and what the content is. The only forum I personally posted it on is here and another one that I frequently visit. That's it and the rest was just friends and their friends.

ps: I'm not getting a dime for this if anyone is wondering. Google usually send me adsense for my other videos on my other youtube page but not this one. Not sure why since I see "real" violent videos having ads on theirs plus I made sure I avoided all copyrights. Not sure if the lightsaber VFX had anything to do with it?

Congrats! Great idea, perfect example of how a viral video can spread like wildfire. The guys in the video must be stoked!
