My very first DVX clip!!

So I just got my DVX100b from a guy here in the marketplace @ dvxuser.com and I have been very impressed with the camera so far!

I had a Canon XL1s before and I did not shoot with it much, mostly because I was so busy with college. I eventually sold it and just got a dvx this week.

I still haven't figured out all the controls, settings, and my editing is a joke at the moment, but I'm eager and excited to have such a fine piece of equipment!

Anyway, here's a quick video I put together. It took me a couple hours just to learn how things worked in my NLE, but it was pretty intuitive. Here's the first edit, pretty much raw unprocessed video. I need to take out the unwanted people that inadvertently walked into my frame at the beginning. Also, I don't know a thing about color correction yet :crybaby:

Thoughts? Suggestions? I didn't know what I'd find at the beach but I knew I wanted to try the camera out :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

nice work man,

honestly, couldnt watch all of it, a little long, but you have a good handle of the camera :) exposure was nice, i may have turned it slightly darker, maybe half a stop.

which NLE are you using, if its PP1.5, the colour correction they have in there is great!

I also recommend getting your hands on magic bullets for presets, since you are starting out. Once you get the experience you think, youll see that making your own corrections is quite a art form and much more satisfying in the finished product.

Cool! congrats on the purchase!

I use Final Cut Pro

I'm not sure how and when to color correct, maybe I need to review more clips of what is accurate and what is off hehe

but being that it's daylight and no tricky lighting, I think there was not a lot of CC needed? I could be way off..

More durmd would have been nice

More durmd would have been nice

nice, I would have liked to hear the drums a bit more though. they were jammin, huh?

They were jamming indeed, I could have just had the drums play the entire time but it was very monotonous and the tempos didn't change enough for my liking

pretty cool.

What part of santa monica was this? when I shot my footage there, they kept bothering me about 'legal rights' and all this other crap.

What did you edit with? what event was this?

Actually this was Venice Beach. I parked in Santa Monica and walked quite a ways and didn't realize :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Final Cut Pro, and I just stumbled upon it, I didn't know there would be a drum circle going on...but people kept showing up with bongos lol

Carefull with the sand... hate to see you get sand in your camera the first week you got it.

Framing looked pretty good. CC needed? yes. In FCP, a good start would be to work with the "color correction 3-way" and levels (effects>video filters>levels). It's always good to bring down the blacks a bit, as they usually look a bit washed out straight from the camera. Also, watch for overexposing... it's a common mistake that's made by many when in the beginning stages.

Yeah, I was a bit concerned about that, fortunately I had at least a filter on the glass to protect the lens element.

I'll have to look for the CC 3-way as well as levels. I was actually looking for levels & curves but I guess I didn't look hard enough in my NLE.

Yeah I used the ND filter and I figured since it was midday the sky would be blown out anyway, so I tried to meter for all the people instead :)

your lucky day, go walk on a beach to shoot some seaguls, and shoot a drum circle instead.

I am going to go work on my documentary/interview skills by doing some talking head shots at the farmer's market one of these saturdays.
