My version of a slider with half ball adapter

Finally I finished my slider - thanks to everyone in the community for providing excellent information and sharing your experience!

My slider is obviously based on igus parts, and I shortened the standard 1m length to 75 cm (2 1/2 ft.) to fit it easily in my tripod bag. I also added some Manfrotto parts so I can simply attach the slider between tripod and head on set without the need for tools.
The pictures below show the slider on my Sachtler, with the GH13 attached (looks ridiculous on that tripod, but I also use an EX1).

I‘m quite happy with my first test video below, because the GH13 is so tiny, the security on that particular location didn‘t bother me (thinking I was just one of those photographers that usually pass by).
Nevertheless, has anyone a good clue on how to make movement more fluid without using liquid lubricants? I tried graphite powder, but that gives no considerable amelioration, just black hands.

BTW the location is an ancient industry building in the eastern part of Berlin, now transformed into an office building for the trendy fashion designers, multimedia and marketing agencies.

Technical info:
Everything was shot at ISO 400 with 4 different lenses: stock lens, 20mm pancake, Canon FD 28mm & 50mm @ various apertures. White balance was a little bit corrected in post, due to the white shift of the ambient light.

looks good. have you tried silicone spray lubricant? so did this end up costing alot less than buying a glidetrack? I had planned on doing the same thing, found a distributor where i live, have yet to get a price list yet.

I got the same slider. you have to move it at the very base!! as soon as you apply pressure higher up it will not be as smooth. ( ick hab det gleiche stativ :)

Mr Fanny,

my slider overall has about the same price as the glidetrack, but the glidetrack hasn't the Manfrotto bowl adapters. So if I deduce these, the basic price of the igus parts is the half of the glidetrack price.

Have you aligned the carriage? If aligned properly it will be as smooth as silk.
You can get instruction here: http://www.zazaslider.com/support.html

Also, Drylin (that's what the bearings are made of) do not require any lubrication! Don't use oils or powders as these can kill the bearings altogether.

Just clean the rail with a little "Pledge" or some other furniture polish and wipe clean. You have to remember that the bearings will 'break-in' with use too.

Hy Tom,

use a bungee cord (Gummispanner) to get smooth moves.

I made a video on that (bungee cord comes at the end)

Hi Frank,

cool idea, I'll try that. Do you have some sort of quick release on it for easy transportation?

BTW you have a very interesting blog, Gratulation!
