My V2 observations...

Apologies for starting a new thread, but there are so many different ones on the subject that it's easy to get lost :)

So, only today did I find some time to flash my FS100 with the V2 firmware - and I have noticed 2 things I haven't expected:

- my usage hours have been reset!
- I could swear that with V1, peaking was also functional in Expanded mode; now it isn't

Please confirm that I'm not hallucinating :)

i share the same results. totally bummed about no peaking in exp focus.

also, 8x seems useless to me. it's so blown up, it never looks good so i end up hunting. a true 1/1 pixel would be ideal...

Yeah - the 8x is never actually sharp - at least not on the FS100 screen; looks blown-up and almost pixelated. The result being that - never being sure I'm getting it truly focused - I need to double-check in normal view with peaking! It is supposed to work the other way around :(

Interesting. Just to be contrary and play Devil's Advocate, I found the new mag system far more satisfactory. Oh well.

Sony's implementation of Peaking, for me, was an 'approximation' technology that turned into a Binary display - peaking would highlight areas that had high contrast, but may not be actually on the plane of focus. The old Analogue style was great as it gave a view of 'by how much the subject is off the plane of focus' and I swear you could work out which way it was by 'using the force'.

Now, pulling focus on a wandering presenter on-stage trying to keep a tight mid shot and manually tweaking the lens? It's peaking all the way, but only because I wouldn't dare dip into magnified view during a shot, so the double nature of peaking (e.g. in full view and magnified view) never really became an issue.

Everyone has their different styles, more than 18 ways to skin Schrodinger's Cat and all that...

Some other observations... When the SD card is full, you cannot just delete the clips and preserve your SETTING directory with profiles:

- formatting the card also deletes the profiles
- it's possible to delete clips in the player mode, but no shortcut to select them all - marking each of them one by one is so tedious :(

Unless I'm missing something obvious, the new firmware has not been thoroughly thought over...

PS. Has anyone checked if deleting the STREAM directory contents (all clips) on a computer leaves the SD card in a working condition when inserted back to the camera?

I use one of my small old SD cards, where I store only profiles.
You don´t have to keep them on your footage cards.

Sorry if this has been touched on, but it looks like the HDMI out features have been changed. My peaking will transfer to my SmallHD DP6, but the histogram won't anymore. Anyone know how if there is a fix to this? Thanks!
