my uni project trailer

too many fades. at uni im told its best to learn how to cut cut cut cut, caus you can fade anything and make it look good.

For me, the fade in and outs, interrupt the flow of your clip.

IMO they should be used sparingly, and when they are used, when the fade up happens, the shot should have some visual punch or elegance to make the transition worthwhile.

Your period costumes were good, and your characters looked age appropriate for your project (which goes along with in believability).

Even though I admire your choice in music (2046) , for me, it didn't fit the full length of your clip. If you'll notice the drum reverb sections usually coincide with visual punch in "2046". If you have more striking visual compositions, then the music may fit, but if not, you might be better off with a "slowbuild - atmospheric" type music. Although, music is a personal choice, so make of that what you will.

Lighting in a period film is a tricky thing, so I give you props for trying to create mood. However, some of your hard shadows were a bit distracting. Your colours were good, and camera movement understated.

Hope that helps. It seems like you have a decent piece there, so many some editing tweaks will bring out its best. Good luck in Uni. Gotta love that gothic architecture they have there.

Cheers. :) Don't spend to much time in ther bar/pub :)

I think your trailer is much too long and while there is a lot of content, it's not all great content. Also, I only leave your trailer knowing two facts: there's a mansion of some sort, and a mysterious man. You don't need 1:30 to tell me that.

Here's an ultra quick hack of your existing footage, hope you don't mind but it was easier to do than to say. It's a lot shorter, and only the really great footage was left in. I shortened all of the existing clips and tried to time things up with the music a little bit.

All in all I leave this shorter trailer knowing the same thing, there's a mansion, and a mysterious man.

It looks like a cool piece, I hope you finish it someday!
