My take on the Lumix lenses I've bought for the AF100 and GH2

Heh. Just finished a writeup on yet another Lumix lens that I bought. Video uploading now... I'll link to the article when it's ready, later tonight hopefully.

Just one question about the iris adjustments on a af100, in the review for the 14-140 lens I read that" the autoiris response is chunky (noticeable brightness changes)" but how about manual iris adjustments, do these Lumix lenzes allow a smooth iris adjustment manually when using that small iris dial on the af100?

quick question on the lumix 14-140, just bought one used and not having experience with this brand it seems that the effort required to zoom the lens seems to be more that I "expect". I just wanted to be sure its normal for this lens. I am used to the zoom on video lens and the focus on my nikon primes, this lens feels stiffer.

Thanks
Chuck

Hey, thanks for that Barry, very entertaining :)

Funny, I had asked Jan about whether you could use the 3D lens on the AF100 and she basically said "don't go there" :) I've been wondering why ever since and was going to try a similar experiment when I get my hands on an AF101 but you've saved me a ton of effort and answered the question.

I had hoped it would be possible that Panasonic would bring out a super-duper-3D lens for use on the AF10x, like the one on their consumer camcorders, but as you say with no 3D processing on-board it would also require a re-design of the camera electronics internally, amongst other things. Still, a pro 3D camera for the $6-7k mark would be really nice, but a bit of a spoiler for the 3DA1.

I am quite enjoying taking GH2 3D stills with this though, the better resolution compared to stills from the 3D camcorder does help but in all cases you have to work around the focus constraints and low light capability. I was thinking of it as complementary to the video camera, mix some nicer 3D stills inside a normal 3D video for title backgrounds, fills etc for "training" type videos. Wiil require some work in post to make it work and haven't got there yet it's on the to-do list... wish I had your productivity, too much going on at the moment.

Thanks again!

Neil

Hey Barry (or anyone with similar experience with the lens), What are your thoughts on the color temperature/contrasts, etc. of the 14-140mm (or any of the lumix lenses), I shoot with zeiss zfs and I know different lenses have different colors, contrast, etc. just seeing if it would be practical / visually acceptable to intercut say from the 14mm (14-140mm) to a zeiss 85mm (or any other variety of lens) and have them match up. I would be perfectly fine with matching them up in post, just want to make sure that it would be close enough to get it right in post.
