Hey guys, here is a trailer for a movie I just finished up. I've posted it on here before, but this one has a couple of different shots. It was all shot on the hvx200. I shot 720 24p. I used the redrock micro 35mm adapter. I used all Nikon lenses. I didn't use the adapter for all the visual effects shots. It cost around $75000-$85000. I'll have a more precise number later. Still calculating. Anyway let me know what you think. It is a feature film. Took about 2 years to make.

I quite enjoyed it, especially the VFX parts, the make up looks very cool. Slot it in the AFM this November, you may get a bite, no pun intended lol
Cheers

David, I liked the trailer and the BTS clip you posted. They look really polished. You have a lot of heart and I respect your drive. 2 years? Wow.
I just bought the DVD set. Looking forward to watching it.

P.S. You may want to ask a mod to change the title of this thread. The name of your film is great. Put it in the title.

P.P.S. How'd you raise the money to make this? It's a decent budget for a self-distributed film.

Good job, man. I ordered a copy! Can't wait to rock the t-shirt on set.

I made a mistake on my shipping address. DOH!

I'll send you an email with the correction!

Thanks for picking up the DVD. I raised the money from friends and family. What happened was it started out only being like $40,000. I got a few people to commit to that. Then it got bigger and bigger and since the investors already committed they didn't want to back out. Plus, after they saw some footage they were very pleased. So, they gave me all they had and now they're broke! HA. Just kidding, but seriously that's how it went.

Please PM a mod to change the title of your threat to the title of the feature, then add the details on the back of it.

It's a great title, like Duke said.

Thanks for the info, D. How do you plan to recoup the investment? Are you going to self-distro all the way or sell to a distributor? Thanks again for sharing.

The plan is to self distribute until a good enough deal comes along. I actually just got offered a distribution deal (bestbuy, blockbuster, netflix, etc.), but I'm waiting. The thing is I'm all about quality. I want to have the best of everything. I know if I sign a distribution deal, it will become a standard DVD. I spared no expense printing the DVD's. I have top of the line DVDigiPaks with a double walled slipcase for the packaging. I also spared no expense on the art. We hired Kieran Yanner, formerly with Lucas Film to create the art. And comic artist Tony Moore (Ghostrider, Walking Dead) to draw a variant movie poster. I most likely couldn't get stuff like that if I signed a deal. The goal is make the movie I want to see in the packaging I like with special features that are fun. The only thing that sucks is the budget. I wish it was bigger.

looks like you did a great job.....
I ordered a copy always trying to help support the indies
So this was shot in Kansas City?
Did you do your own editing? CC?
If so what program did you use?

Thanks

Has anyone recieved their copy? I'm bed-ridden for a while and it's the perfect time to watch this feature.

I want!

Hey guys I just got what I consider to be a very conscientious and proactive email from Blair. It seems the printing people printed part of their DVD materials backwards. So it's being redone now. Plus it looks like they've put together quite a package. Nice model for self distro. And Blair I think people would be even more inclined to by your DVD if they new all the cool swag they were getting. (I did't, thought it was just a DVD).
You are receiving this message because you ordered a copy of the film, "My Stepdad's A Freakin' Vampire," by independent filmmaker David Matheny. You were told that you'd receive your copy sometime in June, however, due to complications in the printing process, the delay will be further. As you can see in the picture attached, the printing company actually printed the back of the DVD backwards making it unreadable. I've also attached a picture of the entire final product so you can see what you are waiting for. They are reprinting the packaging for us right now. We will notify you when the shipment gets in and we will get your copy to you immediately. We are very sorry about this delay.
Thank you for your patience and let me know if you have any further questions.
Blair Johnson
So if you didn't get an email such as the one above, you likely will shortly. If you ordered one and didn't get an email, maybe contact them and let them know. Though I know many of you will be recievning this email bcause I saw your email addresses in the one sent to me (note to Blair: look into the BCC function :) )

Anyway here's the cool stuff we can expect:

REALLY NICE PACKING! Plus a poster eh?

Here's the printing error:

Which kind of begs the question - who at the printing place looked at this and thought - "yeah let's ship it - looks good to me?"
