Here's a short film of mine that is one of 19 national finalists in the current IFC/Time Warner Short Film Contest:

and search for the film titled:
"SelfConfession"
(they randomize the videos)

SelfConfession was shot last winter as an experiment. I was curious of the effect and out come of taking something non-fictional and presenting it in a fictional manner. Hence why you hear me call action, the cutting, the black and white, the black abyss, the high contrast, etc. Then I took something fictional and presented it in a non-fictional manner. The ending with the phone call is shown with no cuts, in color, natural lighting, etc. That ending never happened, but the beginning were the actor’s real thoughts and problems. You could call SelfConfession an experimental documentary because of this, and it is something I would like to play with more in the future as the result has clearly been successful.
After Thoughts:
The only thing I WOULD change about this piece is that if I were to do it again, instead of JUST hearing me call action … the viewer would also see me SLATE the film as well. I feel that would drive home the point that it is there on purpose. Live and learn.
SelfConfession was shot digitally on a Panasonic HVX200a
Edited with, Final Cut Pro Studio w/ Magic Bullet Looks Plug-in
Lit with two 100watt Clamp Lights.
The film stars Thom Huenger who is my best friend (and has been for nearly a decade) and I, JP. Schmidt .. conceived, shot, and edited the film.
Thanks for checking it out!
