My Refrigerator

Re: My Refrigerator

LOL

I loved it! Genius! Did you shoot this alone? I laughed throughout the entire piece. Very well done; nice comps, nice exposure, nice, tight editing, a fun score and the monologue voice over was classic.

Totally enjoyed this. Great job! I want the sequel.

My only subjective take is:

When he says "cant sleep, cant eat, only pray for survival.." I would liked to have seen supporting shots of these!

Re: My Refrigerator

GE Profile Series meets Maximum Overdrive - except your refrigerator actually exhibits more personality than the vehicles or actors in that picture. I am a little concerned about the toaster's motives though. Appliances do make strange bedfellows - ask me how I know...

You've already got more of a storyline than any Stephen King "novel" - I suggest you develop a feature property of this concept.

Re: My Refrigerator

hahahah great short, i was joking on school with a similar idea. but instead of a refrigerator it would be a toilet. and it would be called. toilets of terror.
;D

how did you do the lettering, looks really good but not that complicated

Re: My Refrigerator

I loved it. The opacity made some of the titles hard to read, but I guess you don't need them too much because of the VO.

Re: My Refrigerator

Hey, wow, thanks. I thought a couple people might like it, but this has been fairly widespread. Neat.

To answer some questions, yeah, I shot it alone. Just me, the camera, and a couple of little Tota fills. Didn't take more than an hour, I think. It's how I got started in film/video work, with just me and a little one chip, making these things. Now, I work on so many bigger projects (with actual, real-life, other people), it'd been awhile since I'd just made something by myself. It's fun.

As for the titles, that's all After Effects work. It's keyframed Path Text, set to overlay, with a little Displacement Map so it conforms to the textures on the wall/refrigerator. The whole thing has a lot of AE work in it. Wanted to grit it up a bit, to make it seem scary or more tense.

For the incompleteness, yeah, I have some problems with that. But I'm hoping that'll be solved once there's a series of these things, so it feels more rounded out, that you're just dealing with this paranoid guy who is terrified of everything. But besides, endings are overrated anyway.

Re: My Refrigerator

I liked this little short. It's a nice example of what can be created by one person with a fun idea and a good camera. ;)

Oh, I have to add that the editing of the piece is also done well.

Re: My Refrigerator

How 'bout ending with a final shot (low and menacing, perhaps?) of the fridge (possible open door, glowing from within) with the voice over saying, "Yes, my refrigerator is trying to kill me." With matching titles, of course. Fade to black.

Would that add a little closure?

Re: My Refrigerator

Brilliant!!! ;D Simple and well made. I am jealous of your talent. I too am trying to create a short video using only myself and my apartment. I can only hope it's half as entertaining as your video.

Now the tough love; I agree with Gabe some of the text was hard to read. It looked liked it was being projected on the wall. If that's the look you were going for, then great. Also, I think some of us were hoping for a REAL ending. Like maybe have a near death experience (the milk or meat is spoiled because the fridge turned off in the middle of the night). Then you carry your fridge to the sidewalk. Fade out.

But it is a nice short. I enjoyed it ALOT!!! Let us know when you have others uploaded. Thanks!
