Looks great Ben, lots of seriously lush shots, smooth moves and a nice edit. As you say it's definitely the 'extended' version, with quite a few re-visitings of several pieces, but given that I think it really sings.
My only critical thought was a cut between a low jib pan and an overhead drone shot at the hop fields. I recognise that they were shot at different TOD, but I still think you could get a slightly closer colour match between them to help ease the edit. The jib shot greens look a lot more yellow than the drone shot, as well as being brighter, so you should be able to bring them closer to each other.
Yes I have a short 'proper' reel in the works but I get sick and tired of jump cutting my way through everything in 60 seconds every once in a while and enjoyed letting it stretch way past what any sane person would watch - present company excluded of course
You're absolutely right about the hops to drone shot - I've found grading Inspire 1 footage to be horrific, especially if in this case it's all tight patterns sending the sensor and compression algorithms crazy and the signal into mush.
Can't wait to test phantom 4 / Inspire 2 material to see if it holds up better.
Nice work Ben. Just curious - is the drone I1 footage your grading shot on D log? Haven't had the same horrific experience with mush when staying away from it.
All the shots involving beer and / or the making of have made me a bit thirsty. Cheers.
Yes it was D-Log. I've found that tight patterns with the camera moving at anything over a snails pace sends the compression wonky and blocky. I had to dump a ton of otherwise lovely shots from the reel because of that. I guess it might be time to play with other settings. 8-bit plus log = bad juju.
And sorry, I ended up doing a lot of booze stuff last year!
no apology necessary.
I'm not a fan of that 8 bit log stuff either. Try the Cinelike. Also - when weather is better, be happy to send you a sample of that h.265 from the p4pro to play with. I'm still testing that 100mb vs 60mb codec and other settings.
