Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew a quick fix for this. The onboard mic on my dvx seems to have "jumped" out of whatever was holding it upright on the camera.

Pic is here:

Does anyone know of a way to fix this at home? Or is it off to the shop? The mic still pics up sound, but it's just hanging there. Not a good looking camera at the moment.

Thanks

hey...sorry man..i know the feeling u'll have to look for a local panasonic dealer or repair shop for that.

I'm not a technician but it seems to me that if the mic is functioning, then it simply needs to be reattached. Unless a piece is missing, you or someone who is adept at repairs can reinsert it. You may find that it will "pop out" again; I suppose the worst that could happen is that a repair shop will need to take over if you are unsuccessful.

Look inside the handle with a flashlight to see how the lip on the mic is supposed to help it stay secure. That may be the key; it could require a slight twist prior to inserting, to be followed by a return twist in order to place the mic's lip inside a guide. (Perhaps what dislodged it was an inadvertent turn and pull.)

Super glue? It looks like if you just layer the inside of the handle and the outside of the mic with some super glue or some gorilla glue, it should stay put! Gorilla glue is the strongest glue ever! About a year, I was setting up my jib with my DVX on it, and it fell over and landed right on the camera... Everything was fine except the lens hood. The bottom left corner snapped in half... I didn't want to pay $70 for a new hood, so I took some gorilla glue to it and it is probably stronger than if it was still attached!

Gorilla glue huh? I will try that. I was going to try to unscrew the bottom of the little plastic piece that the mic fits into, but the screws are so tiny and tight that I couldn't get them off. I didn't want to strip them, so I just left it alone. I'll try the twist and insert method first. If not, I'll go with the gorilla glue. Since it is still working, I just need to reattach it, so it doesn't look so bad.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Gorilla glue will definitely do the job. Just don't use very much. It expands a LOT when curing and will bubble out into view and look horrible. Ask me how I know!
