My new product!

Re: My new product!

Was all of "Rock Bottom Freeride" shot with the DVX? If so, that's some of the better looking footage of that genre that I've seen yet. Lots of the cycling videos I have look like they were shot with 1 chip cameras and without any effort to make it look good. Your shots look like the higher production videos that use film footage.

Re: My new product!

Heya tawsy :D

The weather has been suprisingly wet and cold... I know - its a hooge shock.

The last two days it has been clearing up, but rain is set to return for another week ???

I have never seen it like this.. Anyone would think its winter ;)

Re: My new product!

Hans,

Thanks....that means a lot. I have been trying to make this project a step above what is already out there. I still can't compete the likes of the Kranked series, but hey, I have just started shooting and certainly don't have budgets for heli shoots and 16 and 35mm cameras. And yes, everything has been shot with the DVX so far.

While on a shoot last saturday the DVX died and I had to shoot with a standby panasonic 1-chipper and another sony consumer palmcorder. I will be seeing how the dvfilmmaker software converts to 24p. So far everything is all washed out and flat compared to the dvx footage.

I hope it looks descent because I don't have the money to rent a DVX while mine is on the bench.

Re: My new product!

Here are some pics from my camera with .3x lens on. Just frame grabs, no video. Its still crap weather outside even after this past 2-3 weeks .... http://members.westnet.com.au/karmatron/

dolby,

when you say "I hooked the camera up to a monitor, turned off "squeeze" and hit the overscan button" - what do you mean by "overscan" ?

Obviously there is more vignetting in normal mode - any suggestions as to what I can do to make it a little less noticable? I dont mind a little bit, just not as much as that.. Should i shoot in 16:9 - I like the letterbox effect. Altho I have noticed dolby said he is shooting in squeeze. Will shooting in 16:9 help reduce the problem?

Re: My new product!

Ok I got bored and went and bought a set of RCA Plugs ...

Hooked up my DVX and had a look at each different mode.... There is no vignetting on my TV in Squeeze or Letterbox 16:9. There was the tinyest amount (thismuch) in Normal 4:3.

Now im even more confused.

Why does the vignetting look FINE on DVX LCD, CRAP on PremierePro, and FINE again on TV ???

Re: My new product!

nahs,

"overscan" is what a monitor or tv does to an image to hide the distortions in the picture tube. You lose about 5% of the picture on a normal TV. On a pro monitor you can turn overscan off and it shrinks the image down so that you can see the entire image edge to edge or basically what you see on your computer monitor.

If you shoot in squeeze or cropped mode the result should look the same. i.e. the vignetting should be reduced over shooting in 4:3.

I only see the vignetting in 4:3 mode with my adapter, but the is not a problem since I shoot everything in 16:9.

You could reduce your vignetting by zooming in slightly if the adapter will let you.

Re: My new product!

hey guys, how about zooming in a little until there is no vignetting in underscan 4:3. will the fisheye effect still be extreme? thanks...

What dolby said.

The DVX LCD and the TV don't show the "full frame". PremierePro is showing you the full frame.

It's annoying and disappointing that the DVX doesn't show full underscan, but it doesn't (and neither does any other prosumer camera). Which is yet another reason why, if possible, you want a real production monitor with you -- one that can show underscan, so you can catch stuff like that at the time of shooting.

But, if you're making videos for display on TV's, don't worry about it -- if it's not showing on your TV, it probably won't show on anyone else's either...
