I would just like to say that I am now the proud owner of the .3x Ultra Fisheye Adapter from Century Optics!

Sent from Japan to Hong Kong and then to me in Australia, $800 cheaper than buying it locally :D

One excited DVX user!

Re: My new product!

Yes, I would be very interested in some screen grabs. I've been considering that lens for some of the work I'm doing.

Re: My new product!

nahs, pleeeze post some grabs and video....i'd like to see how bad(or not so bad) it vignettes...otherwise i may go w/ the do it yourself raynox from the other site...

Re: My new product!

I have been using the DIY fisheye/w-a for a couple of months on the mtn bike dvd I am working on and have to say, it works better than I ever imagined. It was a breeze to build and the video I am getting looks great.

Re: My new product!

dolby, nahs,

can you guys post some images and video if possible so we can compare the 2? if i recall, the diy does not vignette even in underscan, correct dolby? i'd love to see how the 2 compare in barrel distortion since they are both .3x. thanks!

Re: My new product!

These are full frame captures from SONY VEGAS and there is no vignetting to be seen. You can also soom through about a third before you loose ability to focus.

For $100, it can't be beat....although I have not seen what the century looks like on the DVX100.

Re: My new product!

Sick pics dolby! Im down with that vert ramp :) Nice website to.. Looks like we have similar uses for DVX and lens'. I film for a local skateshop (www.momentumskate.com.au) and Australian based skateboarding teams.

I will be using the .3x for skateboarding mainly and yeah it vignettes, altho we as a sk8 community dont really mind the vignetting... You can get it to a point where the vignetting isnt that big a deal and you can zoom about a 1/3 also before you lose ability to focus.

The DIY lens does look ok - I knew about the product a v.long time ago. My business name will be covering my DVX, lens and any other business related products I buy, so I personally decided to get the Century .3x

I'll be keeping an eye on your website, any idea on price of DVD? Do you get to travel to shoot for the DVD/website? Travelling/shooting and having fun while getting paid makes this type of work so much fun :D

Weather has been POO since I got my lens, i'll keep you posted tho once weather is back to beauty..

Hmm, these look good. Might just make the move for this lens setup instead.

Btw - Checked out your site. Will be looking forward to your DVD. How's the collar bone? Busted mine last year. I don't know how I raced so long without busting mine. Then 'snap' it happened.

Re: My new product!

I mainly use it for skateboarding as well, and for skateboarding the vig is not so horrible, if your using for a narrative or something you would be quite displeased with it. Though if your using it in a 16:9 project then if you crop in post you loose all of the vig anyways so its really not that big a deal and it really does not look bad at all at least on a tv when you do cropping with the .3x lens

Yeah its fine, nothing to complain about.

100% hit nail on head.

Got any links/pics/movies of skateboarding you wish to share with me :D ?

Re: My new product!

I realized last night that the shots I posted were shot in squeeze mode and so I hooked the camera up to a monitor, turned off "squeeze" and hit the overscan button. Well, it does vignette in 4:3, but not as much as the Century. But 100% of what I shoot is in 16:9 and I will never see it.

nahs,

I do quite a bit of traveling for the DVD, I am headed down to central Florida this weekend to shoot and up to West Virginia in a couple of weeks. Fortunately the DVD is just about riding in the Southeast so all of the driving is 10 hours or less.
As far as price goes, I am not sure yet. It comes down to what the distributor will give per DVD and if the let me sell it at my own price on my website. Personally I would like to sell them for $14.95 or $19.95 on my site and get $7-$9 from the distributor.
How is your project going?

BTW, the collar bone is healing up great. Still can't do any big drops yet, but I am riding again. ;D
