my new music video

thanks for the responses..to the rest of you 106 view 2 comments??? c'mon tear this thing apart....you can only learn from mistakes.

Mastermind I agree with you...fact is, the majority of people that use DVXuser don't like Hip Hop music and tend to either not comment at all or seem to hate on a given project. I think its messed up but thats how it is. I don't post much hip hop anymore for that reason. Now one way folks can critique is just turned the speakers off and critique how the editing is done, or how it was shot...etc! I too hate it when there is a whole lot of views and only one or two comments....that sucks because everybody wants and/or needs some sort of feedback from the masses! So I am with you on this one!

So I thnk the video looked pretty good...

I liked it, great basic video, really good artist, I'm a fan. Did you shoot all preset?

Gj, update me on future projects.

Enjoyed the video man.. Liked the colors.. Any Color correction or was it all in cam? Edit on Premier, Final Cut, Vegas? After Effects?

So that's why my vids don't get many comments Dvx shooter you have solved the puzzle. Also I see you're in delaware I'm not to far in Va.

Maybe we can work on a project.

I don't usually look at youtube videos just because the compression ruins the enjoyment for me. And it's slow loading.

Looked good. Concept was boring. I stopped half way because it's like every other rap video out there but lower budget. Nothing new...

Editing was good, paced well.

yea it looks pretty good and I dig the song but I agree with others that it is pretty cliche hip hop music vid. besides that, I don't see anything really wrong with this video. I liked the slow mo with the birds.

I would also imagine if u had a better res version more people would view it. many are anti-youtube on here.

thatnks for the responses. in regards to the concept we were actually recreating a "style" of music video, the golden era of hiphop in the mid 90 so we were going for those types of shots. hip-hop "heads" would understand. We purposely didn't want a a complex treatment. this is like the AZ, Nas, videos of the era.

For whoever asked i shot it on scene file f6 and the only thing i adjusted was the master ped which was at -10 or so i believe. i then CCd it in post.

In regards tot he pigeons we pretty much had to wait for them to settle then sneak up oin them. i shot those shots in 60i then slowed them down to 40% in a 24 fps timeline. thats about it.

sorry it was boring to some but quite honestly couldn't we say its as "boring" as your typical rock video of a band on some rooftop? sometimes they add a bunch of teenagers running in the streets for some reason or a solo girl wandering the streets barefeet on some "quest" i personally dont think theres anything "wrong" with that. its only fair to admit that every genre has its cliches. how many punk rock videos are they gonna shoot at a skate park or mosh pit?

I was just stating it was cliche, which really isn't really bad.

I understand the whole golden era of hip hop but not every video during that time looked like that. We had tribe, jeru, pharcyde, gangstarr, de la and much more that had a lot of diverse looking music videos. Being a hip hop head and all round music head myself, I didn't really "understand" right off the bat. I still see this style in modern videos by the way.

None the less its still a good video and I enjoyed it along with the music. some of the static bridge shots looked really nice. also good use of multiple angles, did you have him perform the whole song for each angle?

on a side note, Rahman Jamal has a similar voice as Prince Ali

the song "average neighborhood" especially. long lost brother?

Didn't mean to sound offensive. It was well made. I definitely get where your coming from, but there are so many music videos being made out there and they seem to be all the same. But the gems out there are all the unique ones, and who doesn't want to make a gem?

yeah makes sense but at the end of the day you have to understand that our job as directors is to represent the artists vison as they choose fit. he wanted this style of video and to tell you the truth i loved alot of the "simple" videos that came out in that era (and still com out) so I was more than happy to shoot it. the slow mo pigeons in the projects, the ball courts, the focus ramp fence shots etc....though i love creative and off center concepts i also love those videos because they bring me back to that time. on a side not his album is titled "I miss 1994"

Actually I think that the compression looked really good on youtube, considering some other things that I have viewed with terrible compression.
I think that hip hop videos are probably some of the hardest to do, I mean, keeping up with current styles wise.
I liked the video, and even though I'm not an expert, here are some things I didn't really like.

It seemed a little too repetitive. Not a whole lot going on, but I do know it's hard to go do different locations, because of budget etc.

The lipsync he did was a bit off to me, but it could have been a little slower too.

It seemed a little too much old school in the beginning especially. That's the problem with rap videos I think though. It's hard to creative the things seen in expensive budget hip hop videos.

Overall, I think this was a good video, especially for the kind of song it was. I liked that it looked so cold and everything. It made it seem like that was def. a place where he grew up. (If that makes sense!) hah

Good job! Sorry if my advice wasn't really good...

Video looked good. One can tell that it was low budget, but still looks professional. I know that this isn't up to you, but I think it would have been interesting to shoot it sort of as a narrative, showing a story of what he is rapping about cut with shots of him rapping. I think that would have been more powerful than just him rapping the entire time. It looked very good though, the shots of him at the bridge looked very nice.

thanks for the responses. i also agree that it did get a little repetitive...that really stuck out to me when editing actually...and in regards to the story i agree that it could have made it a little more interesting to watch.

mastermind, what part of VA are you in? I used to live down there close to VA Beach. As for the compression aspect of your video, what did you use to do the compression for it to look as good as it did on Youtube. Youtube is known for recompressing videos. Someone else mentioned that they don't like viewing videos on youtube. What are some of the better sites to post videos? I have a few on myspace but I am looking for others sites to post where I can get better quality.
