Hi all!
I'm worried about my dvx100 because when I try to close or open the iris in manual mode it suddenly closes itself. This thing happens many many times but not always... What do you think it could have happend? Anyone with the same problem?
This sounds very similar to something I've been experiencing but I'm unable to reproduce the event. It seems to happen when i'm very slowly opening or slowing the iris. The iris will all of a sudden jump 2-3 stops in the same direction as I was intending (opening or closing). Maybe a sticky wheel? It doesn't seem to be the auto iris..it's jumping way to much and in the opposite direction fo what it should be....
hey guys. I'm having the same problem too!! It screwed me all day long on a doc I am shooting and I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be awsome.
Sounds a lot like a dirty pot, but I only guessing. Same thing happens on the volume control pot in your old clock radio. You know, the volume jumps from soft to loud and back with only a touch of the knob.
If it was my cam I'd sent it in for a good cleaning and checkup at an authorized sevice center.
The iris suddenly closes on manual causing the picture to get dark. It seems to happen more when I change the scenes settings. Could this be a bug in the camera. It has so few hours and has been sealed in a box. It can't have any dirty problems. I take care of it like a baby.
I've run into this because sometimes I manually ride the iris. I think the taper is logarithmic, so when you get to the ends, it appears to suddenly jump.
Ya I still don't know...it hasn't happened since though..and it was only with really slow creeps of the iris...still been meaning to take some compressed air to it.
Well. I'm in my 10th day in a row shooting a doc with this iris problem and it hasn't gotten any better. I'm going to have to get it serviced as soon as I'm done. This problem sure burned me.
Let us know if they can tell you what it is that's causing it. It happened again this weekend to me. It seems though it's only when the camera is recording. For the life of me I can't recreate it when in standby. This time I'd be shooting around 2.8 to 4.0 and would want to close down not even a 1/2 stop while shooting as clouds were coming in and out and it would jump right down to close. I have a feeling it's when i tap the wheel as closing it?
Have you solved this problem? I'm having it, too, now. Sometimes I just touch the iris and it goes from f2 to closed...it's pretty serious. And sometimes it changes directions....rolling up stops down, then opens the iris..bizarre.
I've experienced these weird iris jumps too. Extremely annoying. I thought, since the DVX is my first "good" camera, that it must have just been me. Probably not based on this thread. I have the (one of) first DVX100. It is very intermittant which is no fun to try and resolve.
