My HVX is 3 days away...

After a lot of effort, Panny New Zealand has secured an NTSC model for me and are providing a local warranty for it. I just have to fly up to Aukland to pick it up in a few days.

I guess there was a hidden advantage to being lost in an island country at the edge of the world: this being PAL land (with a population of roughly 4 million), it seems I had no competition in wanting the NTSC model.

The resolution results did throw a new spin on things for me as I am aiming for film transfer on this project, and want to resolve as much information as I can. While the notion of hoping the HVX used for the 4 camera comparison was faulty is appealing, it probably isn't something one should lucidly depend on. At any rate, I doubt the test will be repeated with another camera in time to help me with my decision...

What I would love to see is someone's opinion of the camera after having performed a film out with HVX footage... but in the time frame, my chances are slim.

So I'll fly up to Aukland and judge the camera on its own merits, and make my decision from there.

Well, I flew up to Auckland to take a look at the camera.
I didn't take much convincing :)

The Panasonic guys a dealt with, Pete Fullerton (sales) and Gordon Barclay (tech), were both very honest and helpful. They made a small fuss over me seeing as I was the first official sale of the HVX in NZ, and I am very appreciative of their time and efforts.

I'm now in Sydney and finally able to start learning the basics of the camera. The docs are a bit odd, and would probably benefit from some reworking, and the fact that the USB2 cable is 'optional' is a bit vexing, but otherwise my first impressions of the camera are very positive...

DOH! How could I forget Ilya Friedman? Ilya was producer on the footage that Moviola had transferred to film too. So there's at least two you can ask!

Congrats on getting an HVX in NZ -- you could probably make a small fortune in rentals over the next two or three months, at least to people who could work with NTSC/60hz footage!

The HVX looked awesome on the 35mm out. I wish more people could have seen it... First the colors were just gorgeous. It has a very pleasant feel to the Colorimetry. The quality reminds of 16mm of the early 90's. The 24 cadence was dead on.

The Lens was tack sharp too! I am going to reload the clips on my site later I filmed off the screen of the 35mm film out. I will post on the board when there up.. Btw....The slow mo stuff is so cool and looks excelent as well!

Ask Michael Pappas, I believe he's seen filmout from the HVX and spoken highly of it.
