hi all,
my beloved camera became faulty today and i dont have a clue how it could have happened.
i was recording a client and then took out my SD card to transfer the footage on to my laptop..............everything was fine at this stage.
i then put the card back in and went to start recording again but noticed that an exclamation mark was showing on the screen. as my battery was running low i assumed it was because of that so i changed the battery to a fully charged one but the exclamation mark was still flashing on the screen.
so i thought to press the record button and see what happens..............once pressing record a message displayed on the screen saying "write protected" even though i knew i had not slid the protection tab on the SD card!
i went to remove the card to double check that i had not protected it by accident but the card would only come out half way. no matter how much coaxing i gave it i could feel that something on the left hand side was trapping the card in its place. in the end i had to give it a bit of a firm yank which then finally released the card.
however, the card had been ripped all along the left hand side and there was now a gap where the card protect tab used to be.........that section of the card was completely ripped out!
i can now no longer put any cards in the memory card slot (not that i really want to risk damaging any more cards!)
if i use a torch to view inside the memory card slot i can see a small piece of metal that hangs down from the top on the left hand side. im pretty certain that caused the problem!
i just cant figure out how the hell one minute the memory card slot is fine and then just 5 minutes later (with the camera on a tripod and no one going anywhere near it!) it suddenly gains a random piece of metal that likes to chew up SD cards!
anyone else heard of anyone having this problem??
ive contacted panasonic support via their support website and it says they aim for a 5 day turn around on repairs which i thought was pretty good..........just hope they are true to their word.
im gutted!
